wrongblonde Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 I know this maybe a pathetic question... but I was wondering what do you mean by this You may not conduct hostee or offer free web hosting to people based on your subdomains. in the usage term section? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Essentially this means you may not sell any of your hosting space to others nor may you have domains pointed to any place other than the main page of your site. To elaborate, conducting hostee means selling space or acting as a hosting provider and offering free web hosting based upon subdomains means that I cannot have domain.com and start offering you.domain.com or whatever.domain.com to anyone that asks for it. You can have space for your domain, a subdomain that relates to cooking but not your main site or even a sub-folder for your little sisters homework assignment and still be within the guidelines. wrongblonde Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Would that mean I wouldn't be able to have a URL with something.****? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 You may have that you just cannot sell it. Quote
wrongblonde Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Oh okay... it's cause I'm hosting my little sister's website.. which is somewhat similiar to my main site, a place for her to show the fan art she's done and I'm not sure if it's okay or not. I'm really worried that I went pass the guideline, which is something I really don't want to do.. Im sorry to be such a hassle.. i just wanted to make sure I'm not breaking any rules. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 I am not sure I gave you a proper welcome before so let me do that. The question I have would be, do you have a domain name for your little sister and are you pointing that to any part of your webspace other than your index? Quote
wrongblonde Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 I was going to give her... a subdomain from my domain.. I'm not sure if that makes any since.. basically it would be.. name.domain.com is what would of been a site for my sister. Is that against the rule? Quote
woesap Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 or even a sub-folder for your little sisters homework assignment and still be within the guidelines. According to Rob's quote you are in the clear. A sub domain like sister.domain.com is exactly the same as www.domain.com/sister A subdomain just point to a subfolder of your public_html directory. What you may NOT do is let your sister get her own domain like www. domainsister.com and let it point to www.domain.com/sister Does this clarify it a bit? PS. Just don't let her pay you a part of her allowance/pocketmoney Quote
TCH-Rob Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Richard hit the nail on the head. Thanks. Quote
