snipe Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Okay, I'm ready to fling myself off a building. Seems like every time I upgrade cpanel lately, it breaks my mailing lists. Emails sent to the list address bounce with "local delivery failed" as the error. To make matters worse, I ran a few of the scripts in the /scripts/ directory (fixmailman, etc) - and now my danged admin url comes up 404 file not found. How do I restore mailman (without losing archived info - thats critical!) My cruelty case lists have been down for several days now, and I have googled til my fingers bled. HELP! Thanks in advance! TCH-Andy Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Hi, Have you got a recent backup? the easiest is to do a restore from that. Other than that - I would open a ticket at the help desk, and we'll take a look at it - potentially restoring it from one of our backups. Quote
snipe Posted October 2, 2004 Author Posted October 2, 2004 Well, assuming the backup drive is (finally) working properly, I should have a backup - but my frustration is more along the lines that it happens every time. I'm on a dedicated box, so this isn't really trouble-ticket material for you guys - its my job as admin to sort this junk out and get to the bottom of it. I don't pay you guys enough to sort through *my* screwups. LOL I was just posting here to see if anyone else had run into this, and if so, what the solution was. The initial error (before I used the "rebuildmailman" scripts and made the problem worse) was a missing file - same exact error I got last time. I found a way around it last time, but I (mistakenly) assumed that the "fixmailman" type scripts would solve the problem without me having to monkey around like last time. Long story short (too late) - I foobar'd it worse than it was before. Phooey. Lesson learned. But I still need to figure what exactly is happening when cpanel updates that keeps breaking this. Quote
TCH-Don Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Have you thought about switching to DadaMail.org ? Its not part of cpanel, so may eliminate the problem. The list is stored in a folder above public_html and the format is one address per line, so may be easy to create from another list. Edited October 3, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
snipe Posted October 4, 2004 Author Posted October 4, 2004 Well, I like mailman and I like the fact that I can offer it to my hostees via web admin. I did actually fix the problem, after hours of tearing my hair out. The /scripts/fixmailman and /scripts/reinstallmailman were throwing errors - so I upgraded to the Release version of Cpanel (rather than stable, which I had been using), installed python-devel, and then ran the renstallmailman script. That did the trick - finally! Quote
