shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I created my forum today and must have done something wonky in it. When I go back to CPanel to make changes as the admin - it takes me to the forum page, but there's no link at the bottom anymore that says to go to the admin page! Also, I tried to log in using my adming name and password. I couldn't get in. I requested a new password and that won't work. Did I screw up? Shel Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 You do not need to go to cpanel to access the admin normally you goto the forum and login then you see the admin login link at the bottom. When I install something like this I write everything down in a notebook. Since I seldom remember the details like user/password How sure are you of the user / password? One thing you might try is in cpanel > MySql create a new user and add it to the database. Quote
shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Thanks Don - I am VERY sure of the username and password. I tried the MySql and created a new user and password. Still can't get in. My forum is at: http://www.thecorpwriter.com/forum I couldn't figure out how to change the name and stuff either. And I'd like to add a text graphic at the top and remove the PHPBB graphic. Help! Quote
shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Don - I just registered as a new person. No problem. I still can't get in as my original profile which I assume contains the Admin permissions so I can change things. I asked for a new password and it gave me one. It won't work either. Shel Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 You need to change user_level from 0 to 1. That account will now have admin privileges. You can contiue to use that account or log in to the admin panel and assign a new password to the original. Quote
shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Dick - I can't change the user level from 0 to 1 because I can't get back into the admin panel. Plus, I dont't know how to do that. I cannot log in as the admin at all!!!! How do I fix this? Please help. Thanks! Shel Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I'm sorry, I should have gone into more detail. Here are all the steps you need to do this. Sorry if they seem over simplified, but you never know who might read this. Register a new user(or use a current account with a known password). Go to phpmyadmin. Open the database for your board and select phpbb_users. Select the Browse tab. Find the user you wish to use. Select the Edit icon next to it. Then change user_level from 0 to 1. That account will now have admin privileges. You can contiue to use that account or log in to the admin panel and assign a new password to the original. Quote
shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Dick - I'm sorry!! I still need more help. Where is the phpmyadmin at? Where's the database for my board? I'm plain ill-equiped to do this kind of stuff, but I'm a fast learner. I'm sorry! Shelle Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Look in your cPanel under databases. When you open phpmyadmin your database will be listed on the left. If you have more than on DB then select the one you want from the dropdown. Then just follow the earlier directions. Good luck Thumbs Up Quote
shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Okay!! Got it! Bless you!!! Since I've got you, can you tell me how to change the headers and stuff? I was able to change the small description but it still says ****** And I want to change the graphic at the top left from PHP.. to my own text graphic. Can you help? Thank you!!! Shel Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I was able to change the small description but it still says ******On the Admin pageunder General Admin select Configuration and change Site Name And I want to change the graphic at the top left from PHP.. to my own text graphic. replace templates/subSilver/images/logo_phpBB.gif with your own image You also might want to take a look at phpBB.com, they have a great section on working with styles. shelwriter Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Dick! Bless your heart! i'm still confused, but thank you for pointing me to the forum about well - - FORUMS! (grin) I have asked my question there and didn't even have to start a new thread! Aren't you proud? I saw where you got your info. Posted my question right in there. Thank you!!! Shelle Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I actually don't have a forum on my site anymore, but I used to run phpBB. I do feel your pain though, it can be alot of work to get some forums to look and act the way you want them to. If you search the forums here for phhBB you will see some of the common issues that others have. I also spent alot of time at phpBB.com and phpbbhacks.com to find answers. If you get stuck don't hesitate to ask for help here, a second set of eyes always helps. As for your logo just rename your image to logo_phpBB.gif then crank up your ftp program and navigate to /your_forum_directory/templates/subSilver/images/ then replace logo_phpBB.gif with your image. If you don't have a ftp program then you can upload it via FileManager in cPanel. Quote
shelwriter Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Dick - I did what you said. I think I navigated to the right place. I deleted the logo_phpBB.gif (looked at it to make sure). I uploaded, via the CPanel, my renamed (logo_phpBB.gif) and it isn't showing up. What did I do wrong? Sorry! I'm a dim-wit at this stuff. You'd think I'd stop trying to do new and completely insane things. Especially when I don't have enough traffic yet to warrant this. But I willl! Working on some big projects right now. Ok, I'm rambling. Thanks Dick! Shel Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Off topic but, Shelwriter, I dont know if you know this but... Your menu isnt working in Firefox. Quote
