Alan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Hrm, Ok, I bought a Radeon 9550 Graphics Card. I plugged the hardware peice into the brown slot on inside the tower. When I went to the software part - I cannot seem to get the thing installed. I tried to install the drivers off of the website with no luck. Someone told me that I might have an onBoard thingy and that it needed to be disabled inside my BIOs, but when I go to my bios and look at ChipSets I dont see a video thing. Could someone explain the steps to installing this graphics card to me, or add me to MSN messenger ' alan@z-c-r.com ' and go on remote assistance and help me install this thing please. Thanks, Alan. Alan Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 BTW the error I get is: ' ATI Control Panel Failed To Initialize. ATI Video Driver Not Detected On System, or is not functioning properly ' Or something like that lol. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 If you have a book or chart for the motherboard look for a jumper to dissable the onboard graphics card. If you mention what computer brand/model some one may have the same and been there done that. Quote
allaboutmadonna.com Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Did you remove your old drivers ? Quote
Alan Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 Urm I dont know how to remove the old drivers, I am extremely new to messing with the tower, only thing I have ever done there is installed RAM lol. Its eMachines I couldnt find the thing about the motherboard lol, but I looked inside the tower for about 30 minutes for a switch and never found one. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 when your computer is booting up press delete on your keyboard, that will get you into the BIOS. Look for an option to disable the onboard video if it has it. Quote
Alan Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 I already did that, and no option to disable onboard video was there. I also uninstalled S3 Graphics Inc. just now, maybe it was just a program? :S Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Isnt there something in device manager you should deactivate when installing this. I remember me had to do that when installing a new sound card once. Quote
Alan Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 Hrm you tell me lol. Device Manager - > Alan / Display Adapters Radeon 9550 (Cannot find enough resources. - No monitor plugged in I think ) Radeon 9550 Secondary ( Running fine. ) Quote
Madmanmcp Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 In Device Manager delete the bad Radeon 9550. Is there also a line for your old video card? if there is delete that also. Quote
Alan Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 N/M Got it fixed. The store sold me a bad card by mistake. Got a GEForce working fine now. Quote
Alan Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 And I found out about the onboard video, Because of the newer motherboard or whatever, the video automaticlly disables when you place a new AGP card in the slot. ( I think it is called AGP Not sure lol ). Thanks for all your help. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Yea! glad you have it working and thanks for the info on the on board card being automatically disabled. Quote
