Does the mailing list use our site's bandwidth? I have a list on the yahooborg. It has over 500 very chatty fiber artists on it. Messages can come through at 200+ a day at times. If I move the list over to Mailman, will I need to upgrade the bandwidth for the site when I sign-up the list with it's own domain and have the site hosted through TCH?

Thanks for any heads-up that I need to know about,

Danglie

Hi Danglie and welcome to the Family Forums!

Yes, anything coming or going from your domain counts against your bandwidth. Remember that since it's a mailing list then you have the original message coming in plus the 500 outgoing emails to the members.

There are also limits on how much mail can be sent out at a time to prevent spammers from abusing our systems and getting us banned. You have to break it down and send a few at a time. Mailman doesnt have an option for this. Some members use a program called Dada and it seems to works pretty well for them. You can read more about Dada at mojo.skazat.com and do a search (top of this page) for Dada in the Family Forums here for more info too.

You wouldn't need a separate domain for the mailing list unless you just wanted it, but it would have to be big enough to handle the bandwidth.

Thanks. Dada mail looks like it will fit the bill if I need to move the list to the list's site.

I see that I can purchase a plan that serves what will be online mb-wise, yet can boost just the bandwidth to cover usage. I just need to remember how many kb's are in a gig, and I will be good to go. I never can remember that.

Thanks again,

Danglie
