I have been trying this for 4 hours and zillions of combinations but no luck for a couple of friends. For their sake its a little urgent :) .

I am trying to install a new harddrive which shall work as a slave (2nd harddrive).

The computer (now) contains 1 harddrive, 1 CDburner and 1 DVD.

Does anyone know how the jumpers are supposed to be set (see attached pic)?

Any help greatly appreciated. ;)

You need to have the 2 hard drives on IDE 1 with the main drive set as master and the secondary as slave.

Then the two optical drives (cdrom and dvdrom) on IDE 2 with one as master and one as slave

The pic looks right to me

Now theres a problem with them again, Each harddrive will work but only with the combination: 1 HD, 1 CD, 1 DVD. If I try to connect both hd´s nothing happens except a message saying there is no system disk.

I forgot to mention in original post that it is a compaq computer if relevant.

Any suggestions what to do?

You are connecting both hard drives with the same data cable, correct? (CD and DVD are on a separate cable?).

And you have one drive (the boot drive) set as MASTER, and the second drive set as SLAVE?

I'd check and make sure that the motherboard in that PC supports 4 IDe devices. It should, but you never know

Ok, that might be the problem. I didnt know they did not have to support 4 devices. Is there any way I can check that without looking in the manual?
