webgyrl Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Maybe someone here can help... I'm at my wits end with this issue I am having. I am having a strange issue with images not showing when I browse the web. It started a few months back and is getting more and more troublesome. I have tried using different brwwsers (Opera, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, IE6, Navigator) and it is not a browser dependent issue. Some images are not showing up on my sites and other sites around the net. Can you guys see these banners (theres 3): I know the images are there in the code, they are just not displaying in the browser window. For example: http://www.natalie-brown.com/community.htm There are two single covers (images) there that do not show up. If you scroll to where it says "Click Image To Download The MP3".. there are 250X250 images there that aren't showing up for me. Can you see them? Also on: http://www.natalie-brown.com/links.htm There are supposed to be a bunch of banners there and the only one that shows up is the Psychadelic Sheep one. They are there in the code, but not showing in the browser. Also: http://www.download.com/nataliebrown/ My image doesn't show up. Actually, on that site, none of the larger artist images show for me. This one doesn't work in any browser I've tried. I sent Download.com a trouble ticket, but so far no answer. Can you see the image? What do you think the problem could be on my end? These images DO show when I check them on my roomates IE6 Windows XP machine. I have tried checking them on my machine using Mozilla 1.4, Mozilla Firefox, Opera 7, Netscape Navigator 7.1 and IE 6 and they do not show. All the other images show for me tho. I have no idea why this is happening. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. It's not all images, just random ones. I'm using Windows 98 SE with IE 6 as the default browser. I'm running a Pentium II, 256MB RAM, resolution is 1024 x 768, Radeon 7500 Graphics Card and I'm on a cable modem. I always delete cache, temp files, browser history, cookies etc. Nothing seems to fix this problem. The only system change that has happened for me in the last few months is that I switched from Dial-Up to Cable Modem... I am networked to my roomate's computer thru a LynkSys Box via an Ethernet Cable. I did upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2004 a well. Thanks for any help or insight you can give. Nat Quote
webgyrl Posted June 14, 2004 Author Posted June 14, 2004 Ok... I think this has to do with Norton Internet Security. I just turned OFF the Ad Blocker and all those images showed. So I went to CONFIGURE and added my domain name to the allowed list and tried again.... still can't see the images. Does anyone know if I have to put the specific URLS for all the images I want to see? How annoying! Quote
Virtual Imager Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Nat... I see all three banners and all the images (in IE) for the first two links you gave. The third link is broken... page not found.... takes me to a search page. I don't have Norton Internet Security... sorry I can't help. VI Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Can't answer the Norton IS question either, sorry and I see the same results as VI. Quote
LisaJill Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 Norton Internet Security blocks any URLs with the word "banner" in them since that is a very popular way to serve advertising banners. Change the directory name and don't use that word in your filenames and you should be OK. You might want to be careful with other possible advertising gimmicky words. Quote

Thanks for that answer... it all makes sense now! I guess I will have to rename my banners and links folders and also some filenames. I think Norton IS is a great program, but I wish you could configure it a bit more. You are supposed to be able to deliniate between sites that you don't mind pop us and ads for but it doesn't seem to be very comprehensive.... Oh well. At least I know it's not my system... was freaking out there for a bit. Thanks for the insight! Nat Quote
LisaJill Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Even if you could configure it you would be best off to change the url so that other people viewing your site - that may be less than technical - don't run into a similar problem. =) Quote
