Does anyone know if it's possible to leave messages on the server and download only the headers using Outlook Express. I only see an option to leave a copy on the server which I assume means the entire email is downloaded with the send/receive function. I downloaded two trojan viruses today.... Mad!!!

I did a query in Outlook Help and I came up with instructions for setting up something called Remote Mail. I've never used it, but at least the description seems to be what you're looking for. I'm attaching a screenshot of the Help window.

Hope it helps.

Use a preview-program like poptray instead.

In this program you download only the header and if wanted you can preview the whole mail before downloading to computer. In my case Norton Antivirus scans the mail before it is previewed (if chosen to preview), and i think that is some default option.

Also, it seems to be many here that uses it and are satisfied with it.

Bruce recommended me this program, so it cant be that bad. :(

Thanks Thomas! :(

Yes, PopTray www.poptray.org allows for checking of multiple pop3 accounts. I've used it for several years.

Leaving a copy on the server in Outlook/Outlook Express will download the entire message not just the headers.

I must have a different version of Outlook... there's nothing about Remote Mail and the instuctions that do appear make reference to folders that I don't seem to have or can't find... ;)

I'll look into PopTray.... thanks All.
