How To Use These Forums

I'm pretty new here. I like BB's. I remember when there was no web, and you'd get this phone number from somebody, and call some guys closet, and get flamed horribly by a bunch of angry adolescent males.

 

This is all so much more civilised, there are adults and real women. Whoo Hoo! Anyway, I like using bb forums for support (one of the reason I chose TCH), and would like to use these to get a little help with my code clutziness.

 

Is it polite to post tech queries here, or is there a better place to post general technical questions than on this forum? Can you point me to other areas where I can find posts about DW, MT, blogs, TCH tech help etc?

 

Also, I think I have my site up, and would love to hear some functionality reports (and content for that matter). I'm waiting for my domain transfer to happen. I think I've met the requirements, but time will tell.

 

For now it seems to be at 66.235.184.119/~cruilnny. Remarks?

First of all, welcome to the family!! It's a very friendly bunch here...the best BB I've found yet!

 

You can post whatever kinds of questions you have on this Board. If it is a question that requires help desk support or something like that, someone will let you know!!

 

I briefly visited your site. A couple of things that struck me:

 

1. Love that homepage image!!!

2. You should include text links somewhere on your page as well as your graphical ones. Not everyone has the capability to use images...and not everyone has the smarts to figure out what they are looking at!!

3. I think your site would benefit from a little bit more of a purpose statement of some sort. If I have to actually read a whole lot of text to figure out the purpose of a site, I'm probably not going to do it. Something to catch your use's attention and make them want to look further! The image kind of does it for me...but it won't for lots of people.

I once happened upon a designer's site that was this really complex collage of images with no text at all. Some of the images had links, mostly to just another level of another collage with a hint of what the site was about. I'm the sort of curious guy who explored his site for an hour, delighting in the slow unfolding of his meaning and intent. It had a bit of the hook of a mystery for me.

 

Anyway, I was experimenting with that mystery thing with that design. A complete flop from a propaganda point of view.

 

All the images are supposed to have mouse overs that swap a text graphic in the upper right hand corner. For some reason, they may not load the image until one rolls over, and then, by the time it finishes loading, the cursor has moved on, and you only see the text when you return to the image.

 

Is there a way to make sure that the images don't appear until the rollover swap text has loaded?
