midwestchasing Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I am a spotter for our local Skywarn area, and tonight I tried using a program called Interwarn to send severe weather warnings to my cell phone. When I set it up, I got this message: LOG STARTED: 5/21/04 8:44 PM Connecting.... TRANSMITTING: AUTH LOGIN RESPONSE: 503 AUTH command used when not advertised I know the AUP states that you cannot send unsolicted email to others, but is it possible to do this on myself? Thanks. bellringr Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 Woah! Way cool! I don't know the answer but I do have a question for you - where are you a spotter?? Great picture! My husband and I have always been fascinated by storms and storm chasers. Here's one from Bloomington, IL last year Quote
midwestchasing Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 ATM I'm in NE IL, Dupage County. 9 months of the year I'm at college at WIU in Mc Donnough County in WC IL. Was pretty busy on 4/20.. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I am assuming that you are trying to set up the program to send email through your TCH hosted account to your cell phone. This is like relaying unless you can tell the program to log you in with authorization to send the email alert. Try using your ISP's outgoing mail server to send the alert to your cell phone. That should work since you are connected to their service. Quote
midwestchasing Posted May 22, 2004 Author Posted May 22, 2004 I've always had problems with Comcast's email service. That's why I wanted to use the mail server here. I talked to someone in the support chat room and he said that would be ok. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 Moving for organization. I still believe that it has to do with TCH not recognizing the program sending email as you from your domain. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I've been checking the what's new for InterWarn and they claim that they have recently added SMTP authentication. They say it was in version 3.0 but also under 3.3 they list it again. Do you have version 3.3? Maybe they have fixed it. When you are setting up authentication remember to add the @****** to the user login information along with the password for that account. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I took the time to download and test this for you and yes it will send email through your TCH account just fine. Make sure you select that your SMTP requires authentication and enter your login information. <_> Quote
