The sites in question that were compromised today shared certain software characteristics that allowed attackers to take advantage of vulnerabilities in the software hosted on the domains. This is not an issue with the totalchoice servers or the back end software that powers the servers but rather boils down to a far simpler issue, the presence of outdated content within user domains. When you fail to update the software you have installed on a domain or do not adequately monitor for security updates in said software it results in open vulnerabilities on domains which attackers frequently scan for in mass methods and compromise in a similar mass fashion. We make every effort to protect our servers from attackers on both a server and domain level but that also requires vigilance from every web site maintainer to ensure they are properly maintaining the content they upload. We have in place multiple lines of defense to protect all TCH customers such as perimeter network intrusion detection to local security software on a server-to-server basis however none of this goes as far as to prevent the most common exploit scenario - outdated software being compromised due to inadequate maintenance of a domain.

We have completed the network maintenance and there should be no further issues going forward.

We will be conducting work on our core switching infrastructure this through the next few hours, we do not expect any downtime to be caused from this work as we add additional fault tolerance into the network. However please be advised that there may be intermittent connectivity issues should we encounter unforeseen issues and need to reroute some existing cabling or similar. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to have this operation completed promptly.

Traffic has successfully been routed around the issue with XO and all network traffic is now flowing as intended without issues, again our apologies for the inconvenience this issue has clearly caused.
-
There is currently a route issue affecting traffic over the XO carrier into the data center, this issue is being worked on and we hope to have it resolved shortly. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may be causing.

I did not get to know Don very well beyond the occasional dialog but it was clear to anyone who spent more than a few moments as part of this community -- this family -- that Don was an inspirational man full of generosity and kindness of heart, respected and loved by many. Our payers and love are with you Don, rest in peace; may your family and loved ones find only an ounce of the courage you had so much of to persevere during this time of mourning. Bless those who mourn, eternal God, with the comfort of your love that they may face each new day with hope.

As some may or may not know - Dan is my brother and naturally my thoughts and prayers are with him and my neice jorydnn. On behalf of Dan and rest of family thank you for the kind words; know dan will greatly appreciate the concern that has been expressed and that will be. Will have dan peak at this for Feedback to let everyone know as soon as things settle down. And Bill/Everyone thanks for always making us feel that we got a 2nd family here at TCH; in good times, and bad.

This is a very specific worm that is classified low risk by reviewing vendors for the reason that it targets exploits for programs which already have patches released. These affected programs are web site scripts that users can easily update; it is of great responsibility to every account holder that they ensure the programs on their site are maintained and updated. At that, the worm uses methods in it propagation that are tangible enough that we can create appropriate rules in our security implementations to stem off the worm from affecting user sites to any great degree. However I can not stress enough that the true solution 100% is simply if your site uses an affected program that is outdated, simply update it and the concern is removed.
