Okay, I was forwarding to a hotmail address. But I don't see Gmail on there, so I will switch forwarding to that. Maybe this isn't a lost cause though. I'll open a ticket with the help desk; if I'm lucky maybe I was meant to not know about the hotmail non-forwarding...maybe that person was still stupid enough to try and download my mail. I'll keep you all updated? If you want. I really wish I had gotten around to activating Lojack; then again, I wasn't expecting to get robbed by someone who lived in the same house as me.
-
All I can find are logs from the current day. Is there a way to get logs from the previous day? I noticed there is a box that says to archive them at the end of every day...this is NOW checked. But I need the logs from the past week. If I don't have them in my cpanel would TCH have them saved on a computer some where? An IP address might be my only chance to catch the thief, and I could tell earlier by logging into my domain email from the web, my mail client HAS been open on my stolen laptop because there are absolutely no messages except for some old spam, so they have been downloaded from the server (before I changed my password, at least). ...and I just logged BACK into my webmail and suddenly have all my missing messages from the past few days. How is that possible? I know I didn't hallucinate setting up a mail forwarder and suddenly having it disappear.
-
Thank you. I hope everything works out and I get justice. Just a winrar or unzip the file? Sounds easy to me! I will have to try that...I probably would have realized that sooner if I wasn't a little over stressed and on a borrowed computer. Thank you!

I wasn't sure where to start. Just about seven days ago, my house was robbed by who we suspect is the roommate we were trying to kick out. My laptop was stolen (among many other things), with passwords saved on it for EVERYTHING. Including my TCH hosting. The day after, I set my email to forward from my POP3 email at my domain hosted at TCH to my hotmail account. The mail started coming in. And then it stopped. It wasn't until two days later I got around to changing my TCH webhosting password, and I just now changed my email password...and discovered the forwarding I'd set up was gone...I'd stopped getting the forwarded emails. I downloaded my raw logs (and intend to do so for every single domain I have under my reseller hosting). If I can find an IP address, I can hand that over to the police who can trace the IP (or at least have the authority to get the cable company to cough up information). So my question is...how do I read these .gz files? I tried notepad, that didn't work. I need to see my logs for the entire past week. Is this something I should actually call Support on the phone about? I hope this is in the right forum, if not, my apologies.

I thought about just getting a different ending like .org, but I figured I might was well get a new domain. I have to admit, the new name has grown on me: http://www.forsaken-angel.net/ Just updated my old layout and I'm all set to go. MikeJ - I noticed there was something in my registrant (which is TCH) where for $10 a year, I can "monitor" the status of up to 200 domains. I figure that is how the squatter snagged me. Oh well, let 'em waste their money.
-
Unfortunately I can't get it back, but thanks for the thought. I never got my renewal notices because the TCH registrant had an old bouncing email I was unable to check (not their fault, it was the ONLY place I hadn't updated!). Needless to say that is fixed now. I would have put the auto-renewal on but I really don't like doing that because it can make my bank account bounce. So I'm trying to think up a new domain. It was my 'hobby' domain too that I hosted a bunch of friends on. According to GoDaddy though, it happened legally, within a DAY of my grace period ending. That tells me they were WATCHING me. Sigh.
-
I'm going to try option 3 and and in the mean while have Support do their thing and switch the domains. My contact information was current, I manage all my domains from the TCH Domain Registrant so since I bought a domain recently I thought it would have told me. I thought it was odd. But thanks for the advice! I'll update this thread as stuff changes (hopefully for good).

I'd call support but I'm running late for work due to this so this is the best I can do until I come back home from work in eight hours. I thought I owned torn-wings.net. I haven't gotten a renewal in the mail lately, and also, I've been a little fried from my day job. One of my hostees emailed me this morning and said it was now parked by godaddy.com. Torn-Wings is ALSO the main access for my reseller account. I don't resell, I just have a lot of domains. I want my domain back. WHOIS lookup said a bunch of stuff I don't understand. It's not in the TCH Domain Register thingy either. I'm so confused. Did I get hacked? What the hell happened?

Sorry Bruce, my brain was NOT interpeting ANYTHING correctly last night. I read every word you said, looked in my MYSQL section of my cPanel, and thought, 'Yeah, I did add to the database!' when I in fact did not. What's amazing is that I installed SMF two or three times sucessfully elsewhere with no such problem - one of the times on bravenet's excuse for website administration - but I managed to forget this time. I'm sorry, I never claimed I was running on all thrusters...but I'm not afraid to admit when I'm a dummy.
-
Just a note to let you know I figured it out and that I should not try and do too much webpage stuff after work and before dinner. Why? I was CREATING the database user but not ADDING the user to the database. And right as I figured it out, in pops into my inbox an email from support. D'oh! I kindly let them know I figured it out...I was afraid that as soon as I gave up and submitted a ticket, I would figure it out. Story of my life! ...I should go eat dinner.
-
I'm gonna open a ticket to support, I still can't get it to work. I wish I knew what I was messing up.
-
That's what I've done, even copied/pasted what cPanel gave me since it renamed stuff slightly...or should I NOT stick with the slightly renamed stuff? For example; with the dbuser I input one thing; say, 'thingy123' for 'domain.com' and after creation it's 'wwwdoma_thingy1'. And if I name the database 'mishmosh123' it ends up being 'wwwdoma_mishmosh123'. I didn't change the name of the database at all from my backup...it looks like cPanel is? Or does it just look like it?

I recently upgraded to a reseller account, and am attempting to restore a SMF forum (most recent version) on one of the subdomains of one of the domains that has already propogated. And I am REALLY trying to avoid a clean install as if I ever have a problem in the future when the forum is much more busy, I don't want to start from scratch. I tried uploading the backup of the database from the old host; will not connect. I tried creating a new database with the same name (after deleting the old one of course) and importing the information into the database. But the error that is not changing is that it is not connecting. I even downloaded a repair settings file from simplemachines.org and it tells me: "Some settings are not being shown because the MySQL connection information is incorrect." When I try to access the forum itself I get this: "Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later." I am copying/pasting the the username of the database as well as the database name itself to make sure I am not making a typo. I even went into the PHP files themselves and tried editing the information there as well (again, making sure to use copy and paste). And I am not trying to use the subdomain address...I am attempting to use the directory address, which will still work once the subdomain starts working anyway. Any ideas, or should I go bug SMF support?

I really do appreciate all the help. Not sure if he'll sign up for the forums...but if he does, you won't block us from coming from the same IP? Haha, the forum moderator in me was like "Oh no! You replied last and you're replying again so you're bumping!" Just have to wait until I get home from work to play.
-
I apologize for bumping but I just wanted to let you guys know we're going to upgrade. I don't care whether we get three free months or not (but hey, I won't complain if I do). I just hope there are not issues transferring his domains over since they are under his name. So you are getting my boyfriend's business -- it will just be under my name. That's how finances work when you live together. Thanks for answering all my questions!
-
Hmmmm...well the installation of SMF works better on TCH than BN with the same exact version (that being the most recent) of SMF. Maybe it's something minute in the SMF coding? I don't know. The server requirements for SMF are PHP 4.1.0 or higher and MySQL 3.23.28 or higher.

My DBA and tax ID is for Designs By Mish (link in signature). I wouldn't be reselling space; I just wasn't sure if TCH's policy required it. Most of the wholesalers I buy my craft components through don't require it; but a few do, that's why I asked. I don't mind putting all my domains plus Jason's on a reseller as long as I can keep my subdomains intact, in fact, I really want to. Even if I have to set it up from scratch. Who knows, if we end up using enough space/bandwidth we would upgrade to the Deluxe anyway. Jason plans to do some web design - but even then, he's just doing design - he said people have to find their own hosting (although I would certainly suggest that they come here! ). If this ever changes I'll figure out the legal stuff on my end when the time comes. As it stands now, Torn-Wings has a ton of sub-domains since I host several of my friends there and use that as a portal to my other sites which are either hosted on Torn Wings itself, point to my other TCH accounts, or public profile sites. The Designs By Mish online store is on a subdomain, but that was because I planned to make only two more subdomains on it eventually, but I may never get around to that. Here comes another question...can I desiginate one of the currently active domains as the reseller domain, or do/should I buy another one? You guys are SO amazingly helpful, such a wealth of information, keep it coming.

Usage seems to vary; yesterday he was using 400MB of bandwidth; today it's 38MB. But he plans to drive more traffic to his site. But now that you've put the idea in my head (I never thought about the reseller account because, well, I'm not reselling, I host my friends for free ) -- we are thinking about doing the Standard Reseller together -- and put all of our stuff in one place. That would be so much easier than logging into several different cPanels and having it all on one bill would be nice too. Now Jason (my other half's name ) said he would transfer if we get those three free months (and then me, personally, I will advertise the @^!@ out of you because of your @w350m3n355!). Now I have even more questions for you because of my innate need to know what to expect ahead of time. Do I need a business ID to do the reseller account? That's not a problem, I got one, and a tax ID too. All the billing will remain in my name. It's just easier that way. We get unlimited domains AND sub-domains hosted, right? We just pay for the any new domain names we purchase. And the domains that he would be transferring - I thought there were two but there are three, two of them go to the SAME exact site (he changed the names of his sites slightly) - those would be free for one year, so we wouldn't have to pay to renew those until next year. As for the stuff I'd be transferring...it's all on TCH. I assume we would log into everything under one cPanel? Would I be able to retain all current FTP accounts and domains, or have to set everything up again? All my domains are registered through TCH. And my major concern is transferring the forums and my shopping cart. I know enough to set up the database and forum and back the things up, but I don't know anything about databasing or PHP outside of that. Do you guys transfer my stuff since I'm already a customer? And lastly...at least until I think of more questions...I want to set this up this coming Friday (payday for both of us). We're on a very strict budget, so I need to know exactly what to pay ahead of time. That, and one of his domains expires on the 8th I think. I just paid $16.95 on my stuff - would that be prorated? Yeah. Sorry if I asked some of the same questions in a different way. Better safe than sorry. And I'm REALLY sorry I keep getting confused on his stuff - it's because we have two different hosts! I can't keep his stuff straight. But I could probably tell you most of my logins and passwords even though they are automatically generated, LOL.
-
Holy cow, THAT got his attention!!! Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Okay, he wants to know now--if he switches, will he be able to transfer his current domains (there are two, which I had forgotten)? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes to that one, but just to be safe. He's looking to get a third soon (for the forum, I'm pretty sure). He's happy that the billing can be done all at once (that's the way my three domains are set up) BUT he wants everything under one webshell. Now that he's completely confused me, I'll just link to his web host: http://www.bravenet.com/global/hosting_matrix.php. He has their premium. If I understand it correctly, he pays for 30GB of space and his ten domains share it all; he doesn't have to get seperate plans for each domain. Is this something he can do with dedicated or reseller? And while I'm thinking about it - when his old domains expire, can we renew them through TCH? If I hadn't just dragged him away from his XBox 360 to show him what you said, he probably would have thought to ask. Oh, and just to update y'all on the forum issues from the other host...STILL having the same problem. And I am fixing it the same exact way. It's getting tedious! Ohh, and I don't mean to sound like a butt-kisser...but I forgot to mention I set my Daddy's business page up on TCH too. That was like two months ago, but hell, Daddy doesn't even have a computer in his office...it took me almost ten years to convince him to get a presence on the web! Sorry if I'm always full of questions. But I am a detail person and easily confused. Especially since this got a little more complicated than I had intended.
-
I wish just my post would sell him - but we live together, what reason does he have to believe ME?!? He's not so much a technogeek, we are more webpage geeks than anything else. In fact *looks around furtively* I'm the bigger computer geek! I've taught him quite a few things. But alas, being a cute female computer geek and the person who keeps the PC running is not enough to convince him... I just poked into his email to see if there's been a reply to the tech support request I sent to his host yesterday. So just to add some more fuel to the fire.... I sent to them: They replied back... Um. You didn't answer my question about what OS you guys are running... So I sent back again... And that's pretty much my whole thoughts on that. Though, interestingly enough so far his forum hasn't gone down yet today...knock on wood. ...is a pepper bar anything like a spice rack? You guys rock. I hope more people reply.

Haha, if he knew I was typing this he'd be giving me glares. Now, I've been with TCH since 2005. There are places that give me more "specs" for my money but TCH has EVERYTHING I wanted and especially at a reasonable price. And this family forum is awesome. I run three domains off of TCH...my 'portal' site to my other sites and subdomains...my artsy craftsy forum...and my online store. Which do all relate to each other BUT...what can I say, I'm a web geek. So I was hoping that maybe some of the family members here can tell us why they like TCH...especially if they have any good comparision stories. I used to have "this", but now at TCH I have "this, this and this!" Of course we don't want to bring up the names of hosting companies we were with in the past...I just wanna show how TCH is awesome is compared to all of them. This crazy idea by the way came upon me as I struggled to get a SMF forum working on his host (which are not TCH, GRR!). After a bit of research, I'm fairly sure his host is resetting the file permissions on a certain file that's needed to run the forum. I'm running the same exact software here and I've never had that problem! Even my old host (who is no longer in business) before TCH was better than his current host. The only things his account seems to have on TCH is that he has a ton of bandwidth he will probably never use and twice as much storage for the same yearly price. But...no shopping cart...they don't tell me what OS they're running...they don't have CONTESTS...heck even their 'help' department is a joke. But I digress. ...I swear, I'm not on commission. But I do work retail. But I'm a merchandiser. And my employer requires me to tell people that I'm not commissioned anyway. XD Yeah, so, everyone tell my darling why he should come here instead.

Could this be why my SMF forum is down (was working last night, now I can't even access the cpanel)? As far as I know it's on Naboo as well, though the rest of my domains are working jus fine. Like Rednarb, I don't want to submit a ticket if there's a perfectly logical explanation.
-
I did see that post, I just wasn't sure if my domain was actually on it. Is there another place to look at up (what server my domain is on)? Besides tracking down my original welcome email.
-
Hey, if I can't figure it out here, I'll go through email or phone support but I don't want to bug them if it's something simple. I own three domains on hosted on TCH; torn-wings.net, designs-by-mish.com, and thedragoninn.net. Since last night, I have not been able to access thedragoninn.net by either FTP ('Connection Closed'), Cpanel, or the site itself 'Problem loading page, cannot establish connection, etc.). My other two sites are fine. I couldn't tell you what server thedragoninn.net on since I can't login to Cpanel to check. I DO know it was working fine yesterday morning. thedragoninn.net hosts a small itty bitty little graphics forum, I believe it's powered by SMF. One of the last new posts before the forum stopped responding was a spammer post that I wasted no time in banning the IP and the user. I don't know if the two are related but I thought it might be good to mention. That and I'm paranoid. Of course if work is being done on the servers, that's fine. I just want to find out what's going on!
-
No computer stuff? Awwwwww there goes 75% of what I was going to wish for. Okay. I wish I could finish my tattoo before the year is out! NEED INK....see http://www.torn-wings.net/ for photos. *edit* That is, AFTER I reupload my recently updated versions, since they reverted to the backups due to recent maintainence...but I ain't complaining, I still have a site.
