Sorry, had 1 more question. I think I get how to setup a cron job in the cpanel. But is there a special directory I need to put the Python script in? Like python or cron dir? Or just my public html folder? Thanks for any advice. Mike Edit Here is the command I am supposed to run, if it helps. And I think I'm supposed to replace "path" with the root path to config.xml $ python sitemap_gen.py --config=/path/config.xml

Ok, thanks for the tip!

Hi Google released a SiteMap Generator built in Python. But they don't say how to connect to your server to run the script. I uploaded it to my public html folder. But I have no idea how to connect to the server via Command Line to execute the script. Any ideas how to do this? Here's a link to the Google page: google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/sitemap-generator.html -Mike

So any TCH guys gonna answer EITHER of my posts??? Or do I have to write up a support ticket? Either tell me how your VHs are not "misconfigured" or tell me how to go about getting some VH domains hosted on different subnets AND the costs involved. Thank You! ~Mike

Hi, I have a Reseller Account. How does one get setup to use Private Name Servers? This may not even be what I'm looking for? In regards to MikeJ's post about Craig's post... Thanks for dispelling a myth, however it bothers me that Craig mentions some VHs just aren't set up correctly. In my mind that leaves a huge ? for any possibility, and the myth is again substantiated. So what does he mean by "misconfigured" VHs? And if a VH is misconfigured, does that mean a Links Back penalty acutally does exist? I'm assuming that MikeJ knows what he means, and that TCH is NOT misconfigured, so there really isn't a problem. But still, how can a VH be misconfigured. I guess this just for my own knowledge, and could possibly be applied to a different web host I'm in the process of transferring sites from. How would I know if they just had my VHs "misconfigured"? Thanks for your help. ~Mike

Hi, I have a reseller account, but would like to get some information. I was recently doing some research on Search Engine Optimization, and was informed about needing to change the subnet IPs of domains that link to each other when hosted on the same server. Or we risk being penalized by the search engines. I was wondering if this is possible to do on my TCH server VHs? Please let me know if this is possible, and if there are any costs involved. Cost is another issue, some places only charge $1/month, some are free. I'm still a little vague on the issue, but was thinking that buying a different IP address for one of my domains would work, but I really don't know if that's the same thing as just changing something called the "SUBNET" of the domain? Thanks for any help. ~Mike

Hi, Is it possible to have PHP in .html pages? If not, how can I make it so? (adding a handler or mime type?) If it is possible, how is it like this? I've been on other server's before that didn't allow this so was just checking in. How come those other server's wouldn't allow it? Thanks,

Is this ever gonna happen to Server 59????! I remember hearing about the Upgrades back in June, so I'd been making plans and modifications to my packages. I've been patiently waiting now with 10mb of space left for 2 months! Plus I've had to go through this 'extension' on the time frame. tch, when you tell your customers your going to do something please do it. The way you promoted and implemented the upgrades is not the way "I" would conduct business, but that's just me. This has put the first bad taste in my mouth when it comes to TCH. I hope you understand my frustration. I know you want to do the best job possible and have flawless execution. But I think in promoting the upgrades too early, and extending this promise so long with no results yet, has soured it in my opinion. If there is any way possible to get the upgrade ASAP, you could turn the sour taste into sweet lemonade. Also, I tried submitted the support ticket 3 weeks ago, to no avail on an upgrade. They said they saw that I NEEDED it, but they still wouldn't do it. Thanks for any feedback. Mike

Thanks for the update! I've been thinking Mambo or Typo3
-
Hi woesoft, Yea, after reading through some of Raul's suggested site's I don't think php-nuke is what i'm looking for anymore... I checked out Mambo, which seems great, but eventually got pointed to this site: http://www.cmsmatrix.org/ It's got an amazing "compare" tool for a whole bunch of CMS's. You just put a check mark next to the ones that interest you and it compares a majority of the features of each system side by side. I think Mambo, WebGUI, and Typo3 were looking pretty feature packed and customizable. But I'll check out phpwebsite now too. Also, i think the opensourcecms.com site allows u to demo a bunch of the admin panel's, but I haven't gotten that far quite yet. Thanks again for the help! I'll continue to post any interesting sites and info I find during my search.

Hey Raul, Made your own?! That's awesome! Thanks for the advice,,,it's good to hear I'm not on my own in some of my thoughts. Those links are great, and much appreciated! ~Mike

Hi! Recently considering using a CMS for a web site idea, but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the following scripts, or would reccommend one over the other. The site would be pretty experimental, so looking for lots of features, customizable, easily wrappable around other static pages (or easy to create static pages within it), and excellent integration of a forum and gallery into the main headlines section of the site. I'd like homepage news posts to allow for more media/interactive content, like pictures, but wasn't sure if admin interfaces had any WYSIWYG functionality in terms of media. And if the homepage posts could optionally be replicated as forum posts for further discussion that'd rock. (Less blog, more forum style for certain posts.) Smartor Site: http://smartor.is-root.com/ EZ Systems: http://ez.no/ VB Portal: http://www.vbportal.com/ PostNuke: http://www.postnuke.com/ PHP Nuke: http://phpnuke.org/ MD Pro: http://www.maxdev.com/ Mambo: http://www.mamboserver.com/ I tried Nuke years ago, and thought it was alright. It has a nice community of developers, so I'm a little partial to that one. Also, I see there is an auto install for v 6.8 in the cpanel. I think it is up to 7.4 though, and was just wondering if anyone has comments regarding whether or not to install through cpanel or download and try installing myself. (felt cumbersome before) Do you keep the cpanel one updated often? (especially regarding security issues). Lastly, one setback to phpnuke I remember was it was frustrating porting static site pages I would create in Dreamweaver to it. Always copying and pasting HTML because I needed to get the layout right first. I just felt like the "content" part of CMS's was extremely cumbersome to create unless it was these little topic-based news posts. So if it's out there, I'm looking for something that can allow for more unique content, with WYSIWYG for pictures and layout design. Any advice or experience with this issue would be much appreciated! Thanks for your advice! ~Mike

Hey! Thanks for the help! It worked! The permission on the .pl file was set to 775, instead of being 755. If Karma exists you've got plenty coming your way! =) thx!

Hi, This is kind of a long shot, but wondering if anybody has any ideas or has heard of this before: I installed soupermail on one of my domains. And it works great. I copied the files to a new domain's space, and changed the 2 neccessary variables in the soupermail.pl file, but for some reason I keep getting an Internal Server Error when I try to execute the script. Still works great on the other server, this one it doesn't. Here's what my error log says, but I don't know what it means: [2004-07-18 03:02:59]: error: file is writable by others: (/home/uncleal/public_html/cgi-bin/soupermail.pl) [sun Jul 18 03:02:59 2004] [error] [client 68.203.174.205] File does not exist: /home/uncleal/public_html/500.shtml [sun Jul 18 03:02:59 2004] [error] [client 68.203.174.205] Premature end of script headers: /home/uncleal/public_html/cgi-bin/soupermail.pl All my CHMOD settings are identical...everything is identical, except for the admin email address, and my root path. But those are correct. Anyway, any help is much appreciated! thanks. ~Mike

Actually I was having the same problem... this is the correct path to sendmail: /usr/lib/sendmail Also, for some reason when I put my html file with the form and my config file in my root directory I get an error that it cannot be explicitly read. Did you ever have this problem? As soon as I create a new folder and put both the html and form file there, it works great. But I can't do that as my index page needs to be in the root dir. WIERD!!! Thanks for any help!

I'm a web/graphic designer... =) firstly, I'm an artist though. Currently I'm a freelancer, working mostly for a company called MLT Group. Should I post samples of my work here? Last time I posted a link it got removed, so I'm not sure what to do about linking to sites I've created. I hand code, use dreamweaver, photoshop, and have been a web designer for 5 years now. It's how I make my living, it's not a hobby, and customer satisfaction is extremely important to me. If you'd like a resume and references let me know. ***email removed*** ~Mike

Hey Don! Thanks for the tips! Do you or anybody else know of some php form programs that allow attachments? I didn't know if that was possible with php form scripts. I was hoping to allow people to upload and send a small jpg to me in the form i have them fill out.

Hi, I'm having trouble getting Soupermail to work. This .pl file plus a MIME file go in my cgi-bin folder, and I chmod ed them 755... i hope that's right. I'll highlight in red the variables I don't know, in hopes that somebody can help me out. Has anyone had experience with Miva Merchant? I'm just trying to get a handle on how to setup a credit card processing site for yearly subscriptions. I'd like to hire a company that has a secure server, (is this SSL??) on which people can fill out their CC info, keep this info on file, and then re-bill them after a year. Does this sound possible? I can't quite figure out the logistics of something like this though. It seems to me that TCH offers all these servers through something like SSL and OSCommerce, but I don't understand where the backend resides, like the database of customers and the billing aspect of it. Thanks for any support or links in the right direction. =) Rock Sign

Sorry about the link... Thanks for everybody's help,,, I suppose I'll just have to try submitting a support ticket for this.

Does anyone have any experience with these two albums? I've been a long time "Gallery" user, and am now looking at "Coppermine" and was wondering if it has any advantages or not. Gallery works great, just seems Coppermine might offer a few more features, like email pic to a friend. Rock Sign

Hi, Thanks for the help, I had to do things a bit differently though, and it's still not working My apache looks like this... when i added the .shtm .shtml application/x-httpd-php it stopped my .shtml pages from using includes. So I just typed in "server-parsed" and they work again. So I tried the .tpl ext but still not working. User Defined Handlers .htm .html server-parsed .shtm .shtml server-parsed .tpl server-parsed cgi cgi-script pl cgi-script System Defined Handlers .cgi .pl cgi-script .shtml server-parsed I talked to my old host, but there's a reason they're my old host, they have little to no support. The only thing they told me they used to get this to work was "mod-rewrite" Whatever that means. When I pressed for more info they said: Tech: for SSI to work Tech: you need following handler Tech: AddType text/html .shtml .html .htm Tech: AddHandler server-parsed .shtml .html .htm Tech: Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes Doens't make much sense to me yet... Here is a link to the old forum on their server and the header's and footer's are still working there: http://df03.dot5hosting.com/~admin252/forum/ I dun't get it yet. Gonna keep experimenting though. Edit by TCH-Raul: I edited your post so there was no live link to a competitor

Ok, I can do that... I just found it odd that I WAS able to do this at my last host with the 'require' code. I just don't understand why, that's all. They must have php or something else configured differently. I dunno... oh well, it's just that it's a couple more pages to change, when I add and subtract stuff from my headers and footers...
-
That's a good idea, I would think that would work! But it didn't work either frustratinggggggggg. bleh. hehe, sorry I can't figure this out, has anyone ever tried using includes with their forum for custom headers/footers?
