Email Spoofers...program By Microsoft
terbear0007 replied to terbear0007's topic in Security Discussions
Sorry folks... I have always been very impressed with TCH and all the effort that is put into keeping things running smoothly. I know "just enough" about certain things to keep getting myself in trouble. By that, I mean that, I somehow thought it might be a program that each person could have on his/her site which would prevent the spoofing. Had I known that it had to have been done by TCH, I wouldn't have written. I have all reason to believe, that with all the trouble that spam and spoofing must be causing, if there was any feasible way to have something done, it would have already been done. Sooo....I acknowledge my over-zealous error and will, now, try to gracefully go back to my blissful existence. Again, thanks for the quick and knowledgeable responses. As always, Rock Sign Terry -
Well, I was frustrated by spam, so with a little help from this forum and a few of the members and moderators, I found out how to determine where email was originated from. Especially from emails which spoofed the emails to appear as if they came from us. Well...I wrote the Hosting company which hosted a "block" of addresses and have, since, received VOLUMES of spoofed spam. What is one to think??? Anyway, I came across a "solution?" that is offered by microsoft and I wonder if it will work and in what ways? I "think" I understand it, but I am sure one of you can better determine if it will help me and others from the "spoofing" of our email addresses. Would some of you mind going to this URL and seeing if it really works? http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/twc/privac...m_callerid.mspx Thanks for everyone's help. I HOPE this works!! Terry Rock Sign

Will This Program Prevent Email Fraud?
terbear0007 replied to terbear0007's topic in Security Discussions
Hello Thomas, I "thought" that was what I needed to check, but when I tried to trace it yesterday, it always timed out before it located the server. But today I tried it and it gave me this message... I kind of thought it wouldn't do much good to look it up. Oh well. Thanks for everyone's help! As always, TCH forums and Tech support are all "top notch"!! Rock Sign Terry -
Will This Program Prevent Email Fraud?
terbear0007 replied to terbear0007's topic in Security Discussions
Thanks Rob, This, which I already included, is the header for that email. Almost all of the are the same. I guess it's like you and Jim say... not much I can do right now. And, banning most of the headers that these are returned to us for, would never let us know about some of the monthly newsletters that are returned as "undeliverable" or whatever. So, again... thanks very much for your help. You too Jim. Terry.. Rock Sign but Mail spoofing... -
Will This Program Prevent Email Fraud?
terbear0007 replied to terbear0007's topic in Security Discussions
Hello Rob, Thanks for the quick response. I wish you had better news for me and others. SO...based on what I have been reading in the forums and what you just told me, there really isn't anything one can do about it at this time, is there? Wonder if you can help me figure out how to tell where an email originated from, by reading the following info... This way I will know what to look for and will try to trace the origin. Either way, thanks again for your help. Terry Ohhhhh, by the way.... Rock Sign -
I have been receiving "returned" emails which attempted to distribute viruses for the last 6-9 months that "show" that the email was originated by one of our domain's email addresses. In the last week or two, I am getting about 20-40 a day. I came across a website that (I think) claims they have found a way for administrators to stop that. I wonder if someone who knows what they are doing, would mind checking out this site and letting me know if this would work and how it would have to be done. Here is the site URL. http://spf.pobox.com/ I sure would appreciate it. I, like so many others, really do hate the idea that people think "our site" is sending all these viruses. Thanking all of you in advance, Rock Sign

Thanks Andy, I am working on it now. I'm not a "pro" at php, but I think I'll get it. It looks like a great script. Appreciate the help. Terry

Hello Nicholas, Since we have removed the bad script from my folder, I now have to find one which would replace the one I had so that people can sign up for our newsletter. I have gotten rather paranoid. Is there a php script that you know would not be able to be "compromised" that I could use? Thanks for any help. Terry Decorativeartsbyjep.com

Hello Nicholas, Rock Sign Thanks loads, for putting this up so we can learn from it. As you know, this happened to me and my site was shut down immediately. Thanks to Bill Kish, and others, the time was taken to go through my files and scripts and the "offending" script was removed. Again...I can't thank you enough! My site is back up and running beautifully again! I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have your site down due to someone spamming via a script in one of your folders! It's kind of like having somone break into your home. It really makes you appreciate decent people while heightening your distaste for those who would, without regard, jeopardize anyone. Not only do they not care if they have your website removed, they don't care if the hosting service is taken down too. For this reason, I sincerely urge you take the advice given and check to see if you could be next. And, Bill...don't think I don't realize that a web hosting service could be banned from operating due to not taking care of a website's spamming. Thank you for taking the time to evaluate the situation before completely banning my site. Can't say enough about Total Choice Hosting!! KUDOS!!! Terry Whitehead Decorativeartsbyjep.com

S.O.S.....(HELP) I'm just trying to find the only way, that I haven't yet tried, to configure the forwarding of my website's email to the (second) 2nd identity of my regular Outlook Express email for IE6.0 I have absolutely NO problem auto configuring my Outlook Express via the cpanel, but it only seems to work for the default account. I haven't, yet, found a way to have it forward two of the four cpanel accounts to the 2nd identity on my Outlook Express. If anyone has ever encountered this problem and found a way to work this out, I sure would appreciate a "walkthrough". Looking forward to some great advice from some very savvy people. Thanks in advance, Rock Sign Terry My Webpage

Awstats skiphosts and access log
terbear0007 replied to Jimmy Legs's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Back again... Well...thanks to Rickvz (advanced member), I am now up and running! I have an "update now" button on my awstats page and it works fine. Rick walked me through each step...and I want to publicly acknowledge his help. I'm not sure if I am opening up a can of worms here by posting the steps that he walked me through, but I am sure there are a lot of people out there who would love to know "step by step" how to get the "update now" button on their AWStats. So...here goes. (Rick...I hope this doesn't get you in any hot water...) First, go to your Cpanel and click on "file manager". Once in there, click on the "folder" beside the letters "Tmp". Then click on the folder besides the word "awstats". Then click on the file that says "awstats.your.site.conf" . Then go to the upper right of the page and click "edit file". A window will pop up. Scroll that window down till you get to... AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser=0" and change the "0" to a "1". Then go down to the bottom of the page and "save". I hope this helps someone and doesn't create a headache for Tech support or help desk! Best of luck to everyone, and special thanks to Rickvz for his help! Terry -
Awstats skiphosts and access log

BOY... I thought I was "starting" to pick up a little bit off of these forums, but you guys have made me realize I am trying to read a "foreign" language. I wonder if I might get a few suggestions? I submitted an inquiry to the help desk, about not getting any stats on my AWstats page, and they looked into it and updated them manually. That has been done twice, by them, and they said they were aware of a problem and that they are working on it. They have always been great, but I hate to keep asking them to update my stats, but I really do need them. My question is this...how can "I" update my AWSTATS manually? And, please, if anyone is kind enough to answer me on this method, please be very specific and don't leave out any of the steps, ok? You guys have a fantastic forum and, obviously, some very knowledgeable participants. Thanks again, Terry -
I'm using CuteFTP and I put in a ticket at the help desk and they have been working with my wife to get everything fixed while I was trying to earn a living at work. But now I'm back and I'm going to see if I am able to work things out with their help. I sure want to take the time to compliment Tony from the help desk! He has been working at getting our site up for hours! I have never seen the pleasant atmosphere and courteous and timely responses from ANY business! Believe me...I will recommend this hosting service to everyone I can tell! Thanks, again, for everyone's help and responses!! Terry and Jane

Yep...I'm a newbie and boy am I pulling my hair out... (what little I still have) I uploaded my files from my old host to my new site, or so I believe..., and a couple of things now have me at a loss for words. 1. Is it so simple that I am overlooking the obvious? How can I find out what I have in my public folder? I can't see anything in any of them. Can't rightclick and get any property size increases, or anything. Can't even explore what's in them, as if they were empty...what am I overlooking? 2. When I go into Index Manager, this is the message I get. What did I do to cause this? "Internal Error, can't find that folder [/home/sparkley/public_html/]" 3. I'm going to go back into all the forums again and see if I overlooked some of these items. but in the meantime, sure could use some help on this. With undying gratitude... Terry

Thanks to everyone...for all the help. And... Lianna, don't you ever sleep? I am trying cuteFTP and after a whole lot of scratching my head, I am almost finished with uploading my files to my new server! BOY AM I HAPPY ABOUT THAT!!! Best to all of you...hope I won't have too much trouble getting everything set up the way I want it! Have a great weekend! Terry

Hi, again, Lianna... Thanks...I would go CRAZY trying to transfer one file at a time!! So...If CuteFTP has a trial period where I can try it out, I will do so. If it doesn't, I will try the SmartFTP. I love the idea of drag and drop! Thanks again, Terry
-
Hi again... Thanks Rick, and Lianna...for your quick responses. Although one might see messages of kudos, sometimes it sinks in more when you actually see the responses and times yourself. I was just afraid of overlooking something which might jeopardize my site because of my ignorence in this process. Thanks again! By the way, I was using the default FTP which came with GeoCities. Does the control panel come with it's own FTP programs? I read through the forums and saw where some are using different programs. Am I going to be opening up a floodgate if I ask which one technical suuport feels would work the best with this control panel? Any suggestionss? Although I like bells and whistles, right now I think I would be much better off finding the simplest one for the job. Again...thanks Rick...and Lianna, for your timely response! God Bless you, Terry DecorativeArtsbyJEP.com

I've gone through the forums and different threads on this bulletin board before I came to the conclusion that I would need some help. I am ready to switch from GeoCities to TotalHosting but I really want to make sure I don't mess anything up. There are a couple of questions that I would feel really good about having answered for me. 1. Will my site still remain functional even if I am having trouble getting switched over? My domain is not up for renewal until April. 2. What is the quickest and easiest way to transfer my files from GeoCities to TotalHosting? For instance...is there a way I can transfer all directly from GeoCities to TotalHosting? If not, would I be able to save all files to one specific folder on my computer and then FTP that folder to TotalHosting? If so, am I able to name it Decorativeartsbyjep.com, or Decorativeartsbyjep? Will I, then, have to move contents of this folder into another folder even if I don't have subdomains at this point? In other words..will this folder be able to be used as is, with all the gifs and jpgs and html pages? 3. Is there some type of tutorial area where I can go to and find information of "how to" do things on the control panel? I know this may take a lot of space for answering, and I am wondering if I should contact someone else to find out this information. I can imagine the number of questions which are repeated over and over and I dont want to be one of those if I can find the info out some other way. Thanks to anyone and everyone who can help me in these issues. Terry My Webpage
