  1. Not that long at all, for about one and a half week since I'm a fairly new TCH customer So I guess I have to be a little more patient. Read about the Bayesian filtering once on Slashdot, so I guess I can cut Spam Assassin some slack Is there a way I can "help" the program building up its Bayes filters, e.g. by marking certain unnoticed SPAM messages as SPAM. Or does it do this all by itself?
  2. That's why I'm currently still relaying the as-spam-marked-emails-by-SpamAssassin to a spam@mydomain mailbox. I will do this until I'm somehow confident that my settings won't cause that valid e-mails are banned. @tch-Bruce: I also have the default level 5 but I'm only "catching" 40% of all the SPAM if I make a rough guess. BTW Recently, I got a free Yahoo e-mail account (for means of go-ahead-and-SPAM-me ) I also used this account to redirect the e-mails from my previous registrar to during the transfer of the name servers to TCH in order to avoid any loss of e-mails. They have a feature called SpamGuard filtering which is remarkably well in recognizing SPAM e-mail. At least I have the impression that it's performing better than SpamAssassin, so it maybe worthwhile checking out for TCH as well Naughty
  3. I just enabled Spam Assassin for my new TCH account as suggested in het Help pages: spam goes to the spam@**** address (in first instance I would like to reasure myself that only spam will be deleted ). I've used the standard settings for Spam Assassin in my cpanel, but I had a look at the configure Spam Assassin button and saw that there's really much to configure. woooot Are there any suggestions/hints for a good "standard" configuration?
  4. my "solution" above is not quite THE solution yet. e.g. if I enter the administration area I get the following messages: >Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/admin/config.inc.php:84) in /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 33 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/admin/config.inc.php:84) in /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 34 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/admin/config.inc.php:84) in /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 35 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/admin/config.inc.php:84) in /home/olzhpqib/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 36 However, I don't need to import "old" guestbook entries, therefore I just would like to know how I can install the updated version.
  5. I'm getting the same message as well when I try to access my guestbook! I've figured a way out to be able to access your guestbook: - open the file config.inc.php which resides in the guestbook/admin directory - go to line 69 there's the text >&& - change this to >&& - you have to do this at a second location in this file as well - save the file If it's allright you can get access to your guesbook now.
  6. Ah OK. It would be neat, however, if I could keep all my e-mail in one account. But I guess it is impossible to sent e-mail to the TCH (web)mail account before the nameservers are pointed to TCH.
  7. I just bought a hosting plan at TCH yesterday, so I guess this makes me part of the TCH family as well and I'm not sure whether to continue this topic in the pre-sales section Things seem to be fine and I will be uploading my web site pretty soon before I will point my nameservers at my current domain name registrar to those of TCH. Afterwards I will transfer the domain name as well. In the mean time I can acces my new web site at a temporay location http://ipaddress/~myusername/. I am also able to access my webmail account (Horde) and can even sent e-mails via the outgoing mailserver. At this moment all e-mails to anything@**** are handled by the webmail (Horde) at my current registrar (as the nameservers of my domain are not pointed to TCH yet). I would like to know whether there is a way to forward e-mails from my old (but still working) e-mail account to my new one at TCH. If this is possible I would like to know to what address I should forward is since username@ipaddress doesn't seem to work.
  8. Ah, OK so it won't be a problem getting the e-mails from my old account into the new one at TCH in this manner. Thanks!
  9. Only thing I would like to know whether option I or option II (see above) is recommended, i.e. change the nameservers at my current registrar and afterwards transfer the domain to TCH, or transfer the domain to TCH and then change the nameservers. BTW: I just checked with my current registrar that it is possible to transfer the domain as long as the proces is "complete" before my domain registration expires, which is on 22 July 2004. As this proces normaly takes about one weak to 10 days (as I've read above) I guess there's still enough time left to proceede without renewing my registration at my current registrar.
  10. Hi, Currently, I'm using a Horde webmail account at my registrar to receive e-mails that are sent to myaddress@****. I would like to purchase a hosting plan by TCH (including the transfer of my domain) and will likely use the Horde webmail interface at TCH. I really would like to be able to transfer the e-mails that are in my current webmail account to my new webmail account at TCH. Using SM Outlook for this purpose isn't really an option . I've seen that it's possible to download the various folders of my current webmail account to my harddrive using (folder management > download folder). This will create a folder.mbox text file in which all e-mails of the concerning folder reside. Is it possible to import these files into my new Horde webmail account at TCH? And if yes, how? (because I couln't find an import folder option).
  11. OK, so during propogation e-mails are sent to either my old webmail account or my new TCH webmail account depending on what DNS server is looked at when the e-mail is sent. However it is possible to receive email from both accounts at my new TCH webmail account if I forward my old default account any@**** to my new TCH webmail account. If I understand it correctly, I will need to know the IP-adress of my new TCH webmail account in order to create this forward in my old webmail account. Do I obtain this IP-adres when purchasing my hosting plan, or do I have to look this up elsewhere? PS: thanks for the great help over here
  12. Thanks, it does help! However, I'm still "unsure" about what to do with the two different webmail accounts.
  13. If I understand it correctly (I'm a bit of a newbie at this ) pointing my nameservers to those of TCH will cause: - www.**** -> web site at TCH - anyadress@**** -> webmail at TCH I can either option I - purchase hosting plan at TCH and upload my new web site - change my nameservers to those of TCH now at my current registrar. How long will it take for this process to finalise, i.e. before my domain name points to my web site at TCH and my e-mails will arrive at the webmail at TCH? Will my site be unreachable and what will happen to e-mails that are sent to me@**** during this process? - after my nameservers have been changed, transfer my domain name to TCH, which is merely a formality since my "new" web site is online and I'm receiving e-mails at the TCH webmail during the 10 days this process will take. option II - purchase hosting plan at TCH and upload my new web site - maintain my current nameservers and thus **** will point to my "old" web site and I will keep receiving e-mails at the webmail of my current registrar. - transfer my domain name to TCH Will this transfer affect my "old" web site and the webmail at my current registrar? Will I still be able to use the webmail at my current registrar after my domain name has been transferred to TCH? - change my nameservers to those of TCH such that **** will point to my "new" web site at TCH and my e-mail to arrive at the webmail of TCH. Also in this case I would like to know how long it will take for these changes being processed and if this means that my web site is not reachable during this period of time and whether I can "loose" emails that are sent to me@**** Is the above "reasoning" correct and what option do you recommend?
  14. Just for the record (sorry if I'm posing a rather stupid question), but when ordering a hosting plan in this case I have to select the option I will use My Existing Domain and update My Nameservers only and Continue >>>? Furthermore, I would like to know when my webmail is transfered to TCH. Can I control this myself? i.e. will my current webmail account at the other registrar still continue to work when I purchase a hosting plan? I guess this will indeed be the case until I actually point my nameservers to that of TCH. Is it possible to do the following: 1) purchase a hosting plan 2) keep my current nameservers (and webmail) 3) setup my website at TCH 4) transfer my domain to TCH (which will automatically point my nameservers to that of TCH) I suspect that after the transfer of my domain name to TCH my TCH webmail account will be activated as well. Is this the case, or can I activate my webmail at TCH at a later time, while my current webmail account is still functioning?
  15. Hi, I'm in a comparable situation although I've currently registered a domain name with another registrar which is going to expire on 22 july 2004. I would like to transfer my domain name to TCH (with an additionally free extension of one year, if I'm correct). Do I have to transfer my domain on beforehand, i.e. before purchasing a starters / silver plan, or can I do this afterwards as well? The "problem" is that I would like to prevent that I loose any e-mails during this transfer and that our site is unreachable. For this purpose I will create a single frontpage (at my current web site) informing that our site may be unreachable due to the transfer to a new host as well as a temporary e-mail address where we can be reached for questions etc. What do you suggest further?
  16. Actually, currently the bandwidth of my mail-acount doesn't contribute to my usage of bandwidth. The reason why I'm considering moving my account to TCH resides in the fact that their amount of diskspace and bandwidth is rather small and relatively expensive. Furthermore, I didn't realise that 5.5 gig is already quite a number Naughty Ah OK, it is good to see that TCH does have some means to fight SPAM.
  17. OK, I can agree with this up to a certain level. I wouldn't consider putting a normal mailto link on your web pages to be very smart. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other ways the spammers can obtain your e-mail address. It is well possible that the spammer gains your e-mail address from one of the recepients of your own e-mails. I think it's a bit far-fetched to say that a user is responsible for what a recepient does with your e-mail address... But, I think this discussion tends to get a bit off-topic. I'm not suggesting that TCH is responsible for blocking SPAM. I would only appreciate it if they provide some means/tools to reduce the amount of SPAM ... and luckily they do
  18. That does make sense indeed. However, currently my e-mail account (myaddress@****) is receiving quite an amount of SPAM e-mails, which evidently would add considerably to the bandwidth of my TCH account. What means does TCH provide to prevent or get rid off this unwanted e-mails?
  19. Hi, I would like to know how the amount of bandwith you are using is determined. If I remember it correctly, not only the data transfer to people that are viewing your site, but also your e-mail traffic is considered as well. I can understand the first part, but I would like to know in what respect your e-mail traffic contributes to your amount of bandwith. Do the following things contribute to the usage of bandwidth or not: incomming e-mails outgoing e-mails amount of e-mail residing on server or of course any posts I may have forgotten.
  20. OK, so I could purchase a hosting acount now and postpone the actual transfer of my domain name until I've figured out how to backup my existing webmail account. OK, and I assume that after the domain registration and/or nameservers are repointed to TCH all NEW e-mails that are sent to someone@**** will automatically end up in the new TCH webmail account. Also, after the transfer of **** to TCH this URL wil actually point to my webspace at TCH. Is it possible to create e.g. a subdomain free.**** that still points to my free hosts? If so, I don't have to wait with the transfer of my domain name until after I've created the new site. Thanks, "better safe than sorry" could be my motto. Hence, my rather extensive questioning. And I'm positively surprised by the valuable response I'm getting on this forum. Really great! I'm working on the webmail portion right now... Good suggestion, I will certainly bare this in mind.
  21. Hi Glenn, First of all, thanks for your prompt response to my question and the welcome to the family . I think I got it all more or less "figured out" now. I will summarize it below, so if you would be so kind to make sure that I've got it all OK such that there are no misunderstandings. 1) backup existing emails/folders and addressbook of my current Horde webmail account to my hard disk I don't know how I can achieve this yet, as I can only obtain this data online through the Horde webmail interface as I don't have direct access to the files and folders of my email account on a physical drive. I'm currenlty consulting with my present registrar how to do this, and I will contact the TCH-Staff as well as you suggested. 2) purchase TCH hosting including the transfer of my domain Does this domain name transfer require additional action from me? E.g. that I have to request my current registrar to free the domain, repoint the DNS servers, or will this all be handled by TCH? 3) setup webmail interface and e-mail forwarding This involves restoring my email/folder/addressbook backup to the new webmail account at TCH of my choice. I don't know yet for which interface I will eventually choose. 4) setup my existing web site At this moment my web site content resides at different free web hosts (e.g. myname.freehost.com). All the URLs in my HTML-files are absolute, i.e. http://****/file.html or http://mysubdomain.com/file.html. Through URL forwarding (masked) I point mydomain and mysubdomain to the correct myname.freehost.com. At first I would like let the current web site reside at the free webhosts. So this would only require that I can also point **** and a number of mysubdomain.com to the corresponding myname.freehost.com using my TCH account. Is this indeed possible? 5) create and test new web site on TCH webspace This would give me the opportunity to create and test my new site with added functionality at TCH while the old web site is still "online". Once the new site is OK, I will redirect the URLs from the old to the new site at TCH. Well, this more or less sums up what I had in mind. Does this make sense? Or are there some points that I should better reconsider?
  22. Hi, First of all a short description of my current situation: - registration of domain name until 22-07-2004 with registrar Namesdirect - domain-base e-mail forwarding - domain URL forwarding - webmail (Horde) My web site is hosted at various free hosting services (subdomains). The domain URL forwarding allows me to show the desired content from these free hosts at my domain name. At this moment I'm seriously considering purchasing one of TCH's hosting plans. Reason for this is to end the hassle that is involved with using free web hosts and the possibility to further develop my web site using PHP and mySQL, etc. I've looked around on the TCH web site and forum, but I still have some questions regarding a "smooth" transition to TCH. domain name I understand I can either keep my current registrar or tranfer my domain to TCH. Although I believe the latter involves an extra fee, I would prefer this option. What is the transfer fee for a .com domain? Does this fee involve registration for another year, or are these costs additionally? webmail I would like to know whether it is possible to transfer all the valuable information that is currently in my Horde webmail account, i.e. archived e-mails and addressbook, to one of the new ones used by TCH (NeoMail, Horde, or Squirrel Mail)? If yes, how can I do this? free hosts Is it possible if I'm a customer of TCH to temporarily show the content of the various free web hosts at my own domain name (after my domain name has been transfered to TCH)? This in order to prevent any down-time that may be involved when transferring to TCH? Finally, I would like to know what steps I have to take and in what sequence in order to achieve the above? E.g. do I have to end my subscription with my current registrar or does TCH do this for me? etc.
  23. A few questions regarding domain registration with TCH: What is the transfer fee for transferring my existing domain name to Total Choice Hosting? Furthermore, I've currently registered my domain until June 2004. Would I have to pay the registration fee (again) to Total Choice Hosting until June 2004? Is it always possible to transfer a .com domain or are there restrictions?
  24. What is the total size (in MB) of the POP3 Accounts that go with your hosting plans? Or do these add up to the total amount of available discspace?
