  1. This is in reference to the script provided in the tutorial section of this forum. (Link) It mentions putting the code into your site, but doesn't specify where. Do you put the code into your index page or does it need it's own page or what?? (I've been programming for a few years, but today I really feel like I'm green ) Thanks, Vendlus
  2. I've personally never used cron jobs before (for lack of knowing how), but here are a couple of links I found. It looks like you have to know Linux server commands. The first link is how to write them. The page is weird... when you click on one of those links, it looks like the page just flickers. You have to scroll up to see the part of the page that changed. This link is simply how to use CronJobs in CPanel.
  3. Excellent. Thanks a lot.
  4. I'm trying to start up a new site for a gaming group I'm in. We're not sure exactly what our name will be yet (we plan to decide and get one registered over the next couple of weeks). I'd like to go ahead and start an account with the TCH name like was mentioned, but the registration form gives me an error if I leave the domain name field blank. What do I put there to have it work? - Vendlus
  5. Mark fixed it. And was even nice enough to tell me how to if it happens again. Rock Sign
  6. Is there anyway to check the current connections to the database and kill them if they are there??
  7. It's the invision board, just like the one here. I've got no idea how it keeps the connection. I've added in a couple of minor mods (like new ibf codes for people to post with), but they've been in for weeks without problems (and I took from from invision's mod site, where no one mentioned any problems).
  8. I suddenly started getting this error on my forums this morning out of nowhere. Basically, it's not opening the table invis_topics. Any ideas why?? When I go into phpMyAdmin, the tale is shown as "in use" and if I click on the properties, I get the same error as above. No one has access to the ftp or cpanel except me, and I was asleep when the problem started (about an hour ago). Anyone have any thoughts?? I'm on Server 35 if that helps. (Yeah, I've also sent a ticket to help, but thought maybe someone here is having the same problem or has run into this before.) - vendlus
  9. Ok, so the dns accesses a random address from your list each time then. Which means, as you said, that all the sites would have to be exactly the same. I figured that's probably how it worked, just thought I'd ask to satisfy my curiousity. Once we get some account details settled, I'll probably have the site I oversee switched over to TCH since I've heard wonderful things from several different sources and have had a great personal experience here so far. Then it shouldn't even be something that'll cross my mind again. Thanks for your quick reply, - Vendlus
  10. When setting up the domain name, I know you put where the dns should point to (such as TCH's addresses NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM and NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM). What happens if you add in a third or fourth address there (say from another host)?? Does it go down the list in order, going to the first one it can?? Or does it randomly pick one off of your list to go to?? Here's why I ask. If my main site goes down because my host has a fluke, I want people to still be able to see the static pages, or at the least, an error page telling them what's going on. Ideally, I'd like the dns to always go to the address listed first (the main host), and only go to the last address (a different host) if the first one's fail. Any ideas on how the whole process works?? Btw, this isn't a big issue for me, but I webmaster a site on another host who is having some issues at the moment, and until we can get switched (probably to here... my experience so far with my account here is great), I'd like a way to inform people when there are outages besides having to email my entire mailing list (which is not an option). Thanks, - Vendlus - ps. I think this is the correct forum for this question, but if not, please move it. I'd hate to break the rules with my first post.
