Firstly I'd like to say this looks like an excellent hosting service, with great support and value for money. I have read some excellent comments about TCH in the WHT forums.

 

I am setting up a small (currently) online gaming community website for which I will be offering player stats for peoples game servers. As this will be a fairly small site, and not offering web hosting to start with, I do not need a reseller acount, infact I only need the basic package.

 

The services I will offer will mainly use MySQL databases (which you offer unlimited amounts, part of the reason I want to host with you), although to begin with I do not expect to be using more than a few, nor anywhere near the amount of badnwidth that is included with the package. I am simply wondering if I would be allowed to sell features of my acount without a reseller acount (there doesnt appear to be anything in your T&Cs about this). I will not be giving them access to the databases, but will be offering ftp access to the PHP files directory, and a sub domain for their stats.

No you may not.

TotalChoice Hosting provides storage space and access for web sites through its Web services. TotalChoice Hosting will not routinely monitor the contents of your web sites. You may only host one domain per virtual account; resellers are allowed to host unlimited domains.

Bruce...forgive my lack of knowledge...but I didn't think this would fall under the quote you took from the AUP. Basic packages come with unlimited FTP accounts and unlimited sub-domains.

 

If fitz wasn't collecting money for those ftp accounts, would that make a difference?

 

Again...I just wanted to understand...not trying to argue with you or anything!

Just to give the Bruseman a little backup here(as if he needs any)...

 

This is somewhat of a gray area that could be up to interpretation. However, it has been stated before that this type of activity is not the intent of standard virtual accounts, and that it is not acceptible in the nature of the hosting packages for standard virtual accounts.

 

You can allow family, friends and such to use the email, ftp and other services (other than hosting other folks, non-related to root websites in the subdomains). However, you are not supposed to collect money for this activity.

 

Just remeber...

Anything that someone else does on your site, virtual or reseller, is ultimately your responsibility. You lose the account, you get in trouble with the authorities, etc... you, not them.

 

EDIT: don't want to sound rude or anything, just can think of no nicer way to say it.

Thanks for clarifying...I just wanted to make sure I understood clearly in case I ever have the opportunity to answer a question such as this for someone else.
