mcduffies Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Hi. Been trying to find some help setting up a os commerce site. I was wondering why a manual hadn't been written to help out novices (me). Well, I found one. I have attached a link for a downloadable e-book. Takes you from start to finish written in plain english anyone can understand. Hope this helps. http://www.pithyproductions.com/oscommerce/ McDuff Quote
tailormadepc Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Hi. Been trying to find some help setting up a os commerce site. I was wondering why a manual hadn't been written to help out novices (me). Well, I found one. I have attached a link for a downloadable e-book. Takes you from start to finish written in plain english anyone can understand. I have to admit that i've failed dismally to find a tutorial that explains literally step-by-step what needs to be done to get a server up and running locally to run oscommerce on prior to posting to the world wide web. None of the tutorials i've followed have been aimed at the complete newbie to Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpmyadmin etc.. I'm very interested in buying a copy of the oscommerce manual from the URL you have provided, can you tell me whether or not it explains how to do what i've mentioned above and whether or not it's aimed at complete newbies to oscommerce who have no previous experience with PHP, MySQL etc.. only self-taught HTML?. How long did it take to put your oscommerce site together right from the start?, do you recommend installing locally prior to FTP'ing to the internet?. Does the e-book explain how to add new items, maintain your oscommerce site or just about everything that you need to know to confidently manage an oscommerce site with absolutely no previous experience?. Thank you, Kind Regards. Quote
tailormadepc Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Have you looked at wiki.oscommerce.com? Hi Rob, Thank you for your reply. Only just this minute read it. Thank you, shall check-out the URL you have suggested straight away. Have a good weekend. Kind Regards. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 I missed these; How long did it take to put your oscommerce site together right from the start?, do you recommend installing locally prior to FTP'ing to the internet?. To get my first product in was about 15 minutes using the one click install available from cPanel. Install from scratch was about half an hour. I dont run it locally, I work with everything on the server. Before coming here I had never heard of osCommerce and hadnt even known about it till about September of last year I think. I also set small goals, get a product in, change the logo, the colors, add a contribution and so on. Dont let it overwhelm you, take it one step at a time. Of course you can come here and ask questions as well. Quote
