forumsurfer Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 Hi, I'm a brand new Total Choice user (signed up today ), however, this is not my first host and I still have access though my domain to my message board and websites on another host as I have not yet changed the nameservers. Before DNS propagation I can access my FTP account here on Total Choice with 66.36.242.229 and my site through http://66.36.242.229/~username/ Here's my question: Can I upload my Invision Power Board, restore it's database, and upload all my websites to public_html using 66.36.242.229 then simply change my nameservers and within the 48hrs or so have all my website accessible in my browser using my domain again? Or do I have to change my nameservers first then install my board and upload all my websites? The former would allow me to keep my board closed and accessible using my domain on my old host with a message of the migration to Total Choice. Once I finish installing and restoring the board here on Total Choice I could then simply change my nameservers and my members would only notice a little downtime during propagation. One more question: If I can do the above, and then access my FTP using my domain name instead of 66.36.242.229 after changing my nameservers, I would still find all my files in the public_html folder not a ~username folder, right? That would mean my site could be accessed in a browser with ***** and not *****/~username. I hope you got all that. Quote
LisaJill Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 The basic answer to all of that is 'yes'. All your files will end up in public_html, not in /~username. You'll always need to use the IP address /~username prior to delegation/propogation, never JUST the IP address. Just want to clarify that as somewhere in the middle of your message you left off the /~username. But you can upload/import everything, indeed; I did that with my MT installation while I waited for propogation. And welcome to the family!!! Rock Sign Quote
