Guest George Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 Once I sign up can I develope the site before moving the existing domain name. I know how to move the server names when I am ready, but want the site working ok before I make the change. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 After you sign up you will receive a welcome email with information on DNS server names, etc. Included is information on how to transfer your website using an IP address which is necessary before the domain changes propagate. You can use that to test the site and get everything working correctly before actually making the nameserver changes with your registrar. Quote
KevinW Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 George -- no sweat! Your plan is exactly the way to do it: 1) upload your web pages to your new TCH site using the IP address & username/password TCH wll provide you 2) once you are ready, then contact your domain registrar to change the two DNS names associated with your domain name to point to your new TCH web server, also probvided in your letter. 3) wait generally 24-96 hours and eventually the wrold wide web will be propogated with the information that your web site (www.yoursite.com) is now located at TCH! 4) once that is complete you can then delete the files off your old domain server and close out your account Welcome aboard! -kw Quote
