kaseytraeger Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Hi all, I've been avidly reading (and posting) to the topic about preventing unauthorized access to your computer and your web space. That brings up another question I'd like to ask. I use FileZilla to upload files to my web site. Does anyone know if there is a way to make sure that I can securely log in to my TCH account and upload files? I've recently learned that you can securely access your cPanel using the URL https://www.yoursite.com/cpanel. What about FTP clients? Is there a way to tell them to access your web site using a secure login? Quote
HCSuperStores Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Currently TCH does not provide a secure FTP connection. Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 If you use cpanel in a secure mode, then file manager is also secure Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 I've recently learned that you can securely access your cPanel using the URL https://www.yoursite.com/cpanel. Kasey, I gave you that info and HG corrected me. If you have your own SSL certificate that is the way to access cpanel secure. If you don't have the certificate and are on a shared server the link would be. https://serverXX.totalchoicehosting.com/cpanel Just clearing it up. And HC is correct, there is no secure FTP. But you could use the file manager in cpanel. Quote

I received a couple of notification windows telling me about the certificate for the server. I'm attaching them below. You'll notice that one of them says the certificate belongs not to my domain, but to server26.totalchoicehosting.com. Does this make it the same as typing https://server26.totalchoicehosting.com/cpanel into my browser address bar? I then receive another notification window about a certificate belonging to #######.servernode.net (or something along those lines). If I keep clicking on through, I get the login prompt as shown in the third image. Is this normal behavior? I guess my understanding was that we wouldn't even see security certificates if we tried to access cpanel via https://www.****/cpanel But since I'm receiving notification that the certificate is there (but doesn't match the certificate owner), I'm confused as to whether or not it's really working... kaseytraeger Posted April 16, 2004 Author Posted April 16, 2004 And the final image (the login screen) Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 As long as the lock/key appears in the browser you have a secure connection. You should be fine. I tried with my domain on server 26 and got a message cpanel wasn't configured on that server. Changed to use server26.toto... and it worked fine. Quote
