kosmo Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Using this forum to give potential customers an opportunity to ask questions is a great idea. Here are my questions: 1. You offer unlimited mysql databases (within the storage and bandwidth constraints, of course), but can I create users that each have password protected access to a single database. 2. Can those users from question #1 access the phpmyadmin interface without the main administrative user name and password. 3. Is the use of subdomains dependant on where one registers their domain name? Thanks in advance Quote
LisaJill Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 (edited) This forum is definitely a fantastic resource. Thumbs Up 1) you can create a database, a user, and assign just that user to the database. It has full rights control as well, so you have fairly good control over that. 2) I'm really not sure on this one. 3) No, the subdomains will work no matter where it's registered from. to clarify: as long as the domain name is resolved at TCH (which it must be for the site to be hosted here) then you will have control of the subdomains via cpanel. We look forward to having you as part of the family. Rock Sign =) Edited April 11, 2004 by TCH-Lisa Quote
kosmo Posted April 12, 2004 Author Posted April 12, 2004 Thanks for the speedy reply. I take that sort of timely response as good sign about a company. Rock Sign Question #2, however, is kind of important to my needs. Some hosting companies require the account owner to login before accessing phpmyadmin. Other companies allow direct access to the phpmyadmin login screen. I need the latter. Could you check into this and get back to me via this forum? Thanks! Quote
LisaJill Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Of course. I will try to get back to you or have someone more knowledgable with that get back to you here, as soon as possible. Quote
DarqFlare Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 All you need to do is install phpMyAdmin yourself to a directory underneath public_html Quote
kosmo Posted April 12, 2004 Author Posted April 12, 2004 Hmmm... I never would have thought about that. So, I install phpMyAdmin in the public directory and anyone who knows it's there and has the proper username and password can log in to any one of the many MySQL databases I'm allowed to set up. Do I have that correct? I suppose I could even password protect that sub-directory with phpMyAdmin and permit access only to those privileged enough to have that username and password. Sounds great! Thank you to both Lisa and Robert. Quote
LisaJill Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 personally, i would drop it into a subdirectory and use Web Protect against it; but that's just me. Quote
DarqFlare Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Actually, when I installed phpMyAdmin, it has its own HTTP Authentication. It does the same thing as the Web Protect, so if you do that, there will be TWO popup login boxes. Quote
LisaJill Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Hrm, I had to install it on my old host since it wasn't available (they wanted 1grand to install it, nevermind ) and I had to explicitly invoke .htaccess protects on its subdirectory; thats why I suggested that. It's entirely possible that I didn't install it 100% correctly, at that. =) Quote
DarqFlare Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 I think I installed it and had to change just one or two things in the configuration, if nothing at all... It automatically used HTTP Authentication... Quote
