scotttyz Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Hello, We have one of our main office people who is leaving the company. We would like to have 2 things happen. 1) Forward any mail sent to her (her@domain.com) to another user (another@domain.com) 2) Send an auto responder like: >Her is no longer here, we wish her the best in her future endeavors. For any correspondence you previously sent to this address please email to another at mailto:another@domain.com A copy of your email has automatically been forwarded to another; please update your contact list for future correspondence. So my question is how best to set this up. I need a physical email add to use an auto responder (so the instructions say) then I use a forward (?) and dump the contents every few days thru Cpanel? I don’t want to just forward the email without letting the sender know there has been a change in staff. And I want to be able to delete (her@domain.com) in a month or so. Any ideas? An old host had an options for something like this, a forward with auto responder that was not a physical email box. Not sure how to proceed Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 First is this for personal email or business or both? Here's what I would do. For forwarding: If it's personal email, you can create a single forward of her current email to where it is to be forwarded. And also delete her current account. If it is business/personal, create two forwards, one to her new address and another to who ever is taking her place. Again delete her current account. For the auto-reply: The address you would use for the auto-response is her current email address. In the body you would enter instructions for how to contact her. Quote

But my understanding is that to use an autoresponder that there has to be a physical email address at (her@domain.com) if so then I still have an email account to work with. Could I use a forward and an autoresponder with an acual email add?? PS we are not concerned with personal emails sent to this address they will get passed along with everything else to the (another@domain.com) Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 (edited) Since you are going to create a forward it should work just as if there was an account. Yes, you can leave the account, and forward to another as well as add an auto responder for the same account. Edited April 6, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 (edited) Ok, I tried both ways creating an account for the auto responder and just picking a name for the auto responder and it work for both. So just create forwards her@ ->another@ her@ ->nothere@ create auto responder for nothere@ and it works! Edited April 6, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote

TCH-Don Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 LOL let us know how it works for you. the forward is a great tool. I use it to distribute a contact page entry to three departments by using an alias address in the contact page and then forwarding it to each person. Quote
Deverill Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 And to think I am an edumacated indididual >Her is no longer here, we wish her the best in her future endeavors. Yeah and it shows... The others have given great help - I just wanted to laugh at the way it came out "Her is no longer here." Cracks me up. Quote
