mmyette Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 I'm not sure if this is a glitch with Horde or something anyone else has had a problem with. When I try to send an email (both new messages and replies) occasionally when I click send instead of sending the email it looks like it resets and doesn't send the message. I.e. rather than sending it erases everything (email addresses, subject, body, everything). The window blinks (like it is refreshing) and then it is a totally blank message with only the identity field entered (with my correct default identity). So I have to close that window and open a new reply and type it over and send it. It doesn't happen every time, but just enough to make it problematic (perhaps 3-4 times a day). I would use a pop client but I'm going to be accessing my email from all over because of traveling and like Horde the best of the three webmail options. Anyone have any ideas? Help! Quote
TCH-Don Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 First mmyette Welcome to the family As to the horde problem, have you tried it with squirrel mail to see it also has the problem. I think you may need to submit a help ticket on this, see link at top of page. Quote
Virtual Imager Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 I've had a similair problem with Horde. What I think happens is that Horde logs you out after a period of inactivity, but you don't know you're logged out while you're typing your message. Because you're logged out, the message can't be sent until you log back in, and by then it is gone because you have been taken to a new screen. My solution has been to refresh my inbox (which either prompts me to log back in if I've been logged out, or makes note of some activity to keep Horde from logging me out) before either composing or replying to an email. Another thing you can do is copy the entire text of your message to the clipboard before trying to send... it beats retyping it every time. Quote
mmyette Posted March 25, 2004 Author Posted March 25, 2004 I submitted a trouble ticket and after several rounds with the techs haven't been able to figure it out. No one seems to have heard of this before. As to the refresh problem. I'll try that. Thanks. Quote
Don Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 Hmmm... interesting. I sent two messages from Horde yesterday, one to a local acct which didn't come through, the other (right afterwards) to an external acct. which made it OK. I chalked it up to being a possible side-effect of yesterdays DOS mess. Maybe there's more to it. Quote
mmyette Posted March 30, 2004 Author Posted March 30, 2004 Just to update. I was using the secure login when I was having the problem. I switched over to the non-secure login and haven't had a problem in a week. Quote
TCH-Don Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Thank you for the update, this may help others. Quote
Despoiler Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 I have been having this problem for about 3-4 weeks now. I never had the issue prior to that. I think the problem is that you [TCH] have the Horde email program inactivity timeout set way to low. I get timed out after 2-3 mins of no activity. That setting is one that is server side in Horde. At least in my brief attempt to troubleshoot the issue myself. I obviously don't have access to change that. If you could check that setting, it would be a place to start. This has to get fixed. I refuse to use any of the other web based email programs you provide. They are just not as functional as the Horde interface. I am on Server 4 if that helps. Quote
Virtual Imager Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 I'm on Horde all day at work (I log on in the morning and just keep it open) and very rarely get timed out... I get notified of new mail throughout the day, sometimes even after an hour or more of inactivity. Very rarely I'll not see any new mail for a while and click refresh and be prompted to log back in. I haven't lost a composed email in a very long time. Unfortunately I can't say why... I don't think I have anything special in my options. But I think it's safe to say that the problem is not with TCH.... otherwise we'd all be having the same problem. And believe me, if I got timed out after just a few minutes I'd know it and I'd be the first one complaining. When I get back to my office (I'm at lunch now and checking in because I can't access the forum at work) I'll look at all my settings and I'll let you know tonight if I see anything that looks like something you could do to fix your problem... Despoiler Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 There is nothing in the Horde user interface that allows the user to set the timeout period. If you could I would have found it. The are a couple things that can cause a timeout. One is a server side setting (which I know there is) or two the local browser timing out. Neither should produce a 2-5 min inactivity timeout though unless there is a misconfiguration. If you do an internet search on "horde timeout problem" you will see quite a bit of hits. Most reference the server side setting and some just say its hordel being natively problematic. I just want to make sure TCH has ruled out the server side setting as the cause. Quote

Virtual Imager Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 There is one thing you could try: In the Horde Options under "New Mail" you can set it to refresh every minute. This would cause activity that will keep you from timing out. I have mine set to refresh every five minutes and I almost NEVER have any problems. Quote
