Hi again, another newbie question.

I know that there is NeoMail and IMP available, but if i need to access the webmail from my "real job", is that potentially going to be a problem. I know there is a restrictive firewall in place, I just dont know what ports it blocks, or even what that really means.

Also, I saw someone installed SquirrelMail on their account, and was able to access their webmail from behind the firewall. How is this different?

Thanks in advance!

Accessing your TCH mail accounts via the web requires access to port 2095. So you would need to check with your network administrator at your business to see whether they block it or not.

I can't tell you about SquirrelMail - except that it is written in PHP and is designed as a web browser based mail client.

The fact remains that the path to getting your mail on your server is thru port 2095 leads me to wonder if or how it would help.

Any SquirrelMail gurus out there????

Accessing your TCH mail through the "official" webmail clients requires use of port 2095. You can, however, install something like SquirrelMail on your site, and it will operate like any other part of your site (i.e. on port 80).

Duh!

I thought SquirrelMail was simply a workstation email client. But then, it's written in PHP and would porbably be installed on your server. Is that correct?

If so, I guess I have some exploring to do this weekend!

i installed it about a week ago, my company blocks everything but port 80 (proxy server)

it works wonders.

plus i could of just used a normal webmail site, but my company also blocks them (no fun here)

one thing to note, it took ssh access for me to set it up..

as it uses a perl script to configure the settings which needs to be ran from the command prompt.

its easy to setup

if you go to the squirrelmail website, they got a faq section with quick and dirty install instructions :D

took a total of 5 minutes for me to install it..
