Redirect Permanent And Temp

Whats the difference between a Permanent and Temp Redirect?

 

I see this option at Cpanel - is one more search engine friendly (ie Google) than the other?

I'm not sure the range of "devices" this affects, but let me tell you in terms of search engines.

 

With a temporary redirection, a search engine upon seeing it, will go to the new location only that one time. The next time it comes around, it will try the old one again.

 

With a permanent redirection, it will always access the new location once it reads the redirection statement.
