Boojum Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 elusivedreams' post about threats from a potential hacker raise a question: In general, how do you find IP addresses for site visitors--especially those who leave fake e-mail addresses in their guestbook entries? (For the matter of that, how do you learn your own IP address? [Told you I'm asking neophyte questions. ]) Quote
Madmanmcp Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 Someone mentioned this site in an earlier note. http://whatismyip.com The IP at the top is yours. To find the IP of visitors you need to resolve the DNS to an IP and this can be accomplished several hundred different ways. You can go to any number of different web pages, I use www.tracert.com. Or since I am usually in IRC I just use a command /dns [whatever] and it will resolve the IP or host for me quickly. Soory I am not a Mac user or I would give you the command that you could use on you local machine for these. Quote
Boojum Posted December 19, 2003 Author Posted December 19, 2003 Madmanmcp: Merci once again. (Although I will now have to learn how to use the service at tracert.com.) Quote
