I've been referred by several folks to TotalChoice. I currently have four CSB 4 websites that I've created, update and manage - 1 is my own and 3 are for friends even more computer illiterate than me. They are small, information sites, the largest ranging from 2.5 - 5.0 MB - the others not even 1 MB. The Domain names were all registered by my current host with Tucows, Inc.

First, what is the best TotalChoice package for me? And how easy is it to publish updates, etc. for several different sites?

Second, what steps do I need to take to ensure a smooth transfer and publishing experience?

Many advance thanks for helping out.

Julia,

You could go with any of the plans you want but from an account management standpoint you realy may want to consider a reseller package. It gives you the option to control the space and bandwidth used by each account so those that need more can have more.

You have two choices when you say transfer. First is just logging in at Two Cows and pointing your name servers here and second is moving the entire name here. You can do that here; Domain Name Transfer

I think I'd like to just move everything here. One place where I can ensure domain names stay registered, one place where I can register new domain names, one place where I can publish up the various little sites.

Not sure about "reseller" - is it something I really need to worry about given all the sites are small and I control their growth? How it has been working is that my friends pay for their domain names and hosting directly and I manage the accounts, but I could pay for it all and they could reimburse me if that's an easier way to do things.

Glad you made it here!

The resellers account will let you add more accounts later, just register a domain and add it to your accounts, and no extra cost except for the domain name.

And there are flash movies on the total choice help site to show how to use the resellers control panel.

If you need any thing, just ask.

Hey Don - fancy meeting you here! Thanks for the referral, I'm starting to feel better all ready! I've asked for domain name account access information from current host, will try to line all my ducks up for a changeover - will have to wait until Sunday with the holidays and all. Meanwhile, if you or anyone have suggestions re: avoiding troubles with the transistion - let 'em fly. Again, a bunch of thanks to all.

Hi Julia,

When you get the info on how to change the DNS info (where your domain name points to) you can just change it to the name servers that you will see in your welcome email for your account.

When your account is set up, you can access it to publish to the temp address also in your welcome email. Then when you change the DNS to point to the Total Choice Name servers, it will take up to 72 hours for all the internet providers around the world to update and show the way to your new site.

You could also start with one account for yourself and add more later or upgrade to the resellers account if it makes it cheaper.

blunted,

When you sign up here

you will get an IP address in your welcome e-mail

to use to upload your site to your server here.

Then when you are happy your site here is working,

goto your domain name registar and change the name servers to the ones in your welcome e-mail

It will take up to 72 hours for all ISP's to update their name servers,

so all can see your site here.
