30SoS Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Howdy, all. I'm still trying to figure out the file structure for my site in cPanel... The thing I'm wodering now is how much stuff outside of the public_html folder is necessary? I have some files that are both in and outside of public_html -- do I need both? I just want to do a little organizing/house cleaning so I can keep track of things a little better and not duplicate unnecessary files, folders, etc. Can someone give me the rundown on all this stuff? Danke! J Quote
Lianna Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Nothing outside of public_html is accessible from the website. If you have copies of webpages in the root directory (ie above public_html) then you can remove those safely. There are however, folders and directories there that are necessary. Anything in the root that you don't recognize as being a direct part of your site (ie you created it or uploaded it to that location) LEAVE IT BE. That's the safe way. Second, I would strongly suggest making a backup of any files that you intend to delete! You never know and safer is always better! Quote
DarqFlare Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 Yeah, I wouldn't touch anything outside of public_html unless you put it there yourself. SquirrelMail stuff is there, SpamAssassin, etc, is all there. Quote
