What files did you delete? I ask because the counter file is actually stored in /cgi-sys which is at the server level...you can't delete that.

Can you take us through the steps you are trying to 'reinstall' it?

hi lana,

when i first added the counter it placed certain folders in my public folder from what i remember, well one of the times i updated the site dreamweaver asked me if i wanted to remove any files that are not in my local folder and i said yes. since then it hasnt worked and when i go back to add the counter it wont from what i can tell. i still have the html text at the bottom of my webpage by the way.

Ok. The counter that you added was not from cPanel then right? The counter from cPanel does not create any folders or need any in the public_html dir.

It sounds like you were using a third-party counter?

Dom, if you will post the html from the bottom of your page here (hiding any private info) then we can help more.

hi lana,

yes it was the one from cpanel.

here is the text

<p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'><img border=0

width=32 height=32 id="_x0000_i1040"

src="../../../../../cgi-sys/Count.cgi%3fdf=dominic.dat|display=Counter|ft=0|md=5|frgb=100;138;200|dd=Q"></p>

i do think something got deleted but dont know what exactly.

Dom,

Has your domain name recently propagated and now you aren't seeing the counter? Here's what to do:

Edit the line of code from cPanel to exclude the ".dat" after your username.

Save the page.

Should work. Let me know.

(If something else in public_html directory was deleted, it doesn't impact this counter.)
