I may post this to the Help Desk, but thought I'd check with others here first.

I was working with one of my customers this morning - they were having problems getting their email. I resolved their problems, but in retrieving their email messages, the following one appeared - and I was curious if anyone has seen this themselves:

From: Mail System Internal Data [mailto:MAILER-DAEMON@server5.totalchoicehosting.com]Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 8:45 AM

DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA

This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not a real message.  It is created automatically by the mail system software. If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created with the data reset to initial values.

Thanks,

I got the same message today. I wasn't having any problems but noticed the message when setting up a filter to move some messages to a particular folder. I'm not using IMAP.

Customer is using Outlook 2002, and I believe they created the email account as a POP3 account in Outlook. It's possible they received the email while they were having problems.

I did a google search on the Don't Delete this message string and found that it is not an uncommon occurence. The following link was a pretty complete explanation:

Looks like you were right about the IMAP and Pine connections, rayners.
