PhGroove Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 I just submitted a help ticket regarding a problem setting permission to the setup folder of Gallery 1.4-pl1 that according to the developers should be set to 755 (config mode) and to 0 (secure mode), well I could do that few hours ago but now I can't, and by the way I just noticed that many folders created by Gallery have permission problems. They are owned by the server, so I can't delete pictures or make changes, however gallery developers suggest to use a script to fix this, the script worked few days ago but now the problem still persist!!! So frustrating! Does anyone have a clue? Thanks PhGroove - - Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 I had the same issues with Gallery, I never could get it fixed right. I had to put in a help ticket to get it removed when i got tired of messing with it. I switched to Coppermine becuse the have a utility to help you get around the permission problems and it is included in the new release. not sure if Coppermine is what you want in a photo gallery but it is an alternate solution. shakes Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 gallery's permissions can be a pain ... you have to be in config mode to change anything ... and seure mode to run it ... you can do all this through FTP but it's tedious so if you don't have shell access this can be a royal pain. how are you trying to change the permissions on these files? also, it doesn't really matter who the gallery folders are owned by ... as long as the bweserver can write to them. You can accomplish this by making the rights on the galleries 777 ... not very secure but they're pictures, not credit card records (nuless you have pictures of your credit card records in your gallery ... but if that's the case you've got more problems than permissions) if you shoot support an IM they'll run file system changes. maybe if you bug them enuogh with mundane tasks they'll make shell available again Naughty Quote
shakes Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 can you give us a link to your gallery? I see copermine uses MySQL which I like ... maybe I'll switch. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 (edited) This is the version ported to PHPNuke And this is the stand alone it is a litlle rough looking, I have been trying to get the template like I want it. Edited August 12, 2004 by TCH-Dick Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 it doesn't really matter who the gallery folders are owned by Not entirely true, if the permissions are set to "nobody" which some scripts have been doing lately you wont be able to change them to 777 or any other permissions for that matter, unless you have root access on the server. PhGroove Posted October 19, 2003 Author Posted October 19, 2003 Thanks to all, after I submitted the help ticket I got the problem solved in less than 5 minutes!!! Actually I had to reopen the ticket cause there was somthing strange going on so 5 minute as total time, and let me say that Rock Sign I'm sticking with gallery cause I like it and for my needs it's perfect, I like coppermine too but... who knows. Hopefully when they'll release Gallery 2 there would be less problems, I hope so, at least! Quote
