MoonFaery Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Last night I found a virus on my computer - java.nocheat. And I thought I got rid of it. This afternoon when I booted the computer back up, ZoneAlarm popped up saying these two things were trying to access the internet. I did a search on google to find out what it was and got some stuff about spyware and backdoor virus. Anyone know anything about these 2 files and can help me? Thanks! Rock Sign Quote
TCH-Dick Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Found this at www.AnswersThatWork.com but I have no idea why they would try to access the internet. Intel Graphics Tray. System Tray icon which gets installed with the drivers for onboard VGA cards based on the Intel 81x graphics chipset. Double-clicking on it enables you to quickly change the display resolution, save your current Display Scheme, or configure your onboard graphics card. You can also configure keyboard hotkeys (shortcuts – this is handled by another background task called HKCMD). You can access the same features through the "Intel Graphics Technology" icon in the Control Panel. Recommendation : Although great in theory, on some PCs we have found that whenever IGFXTRAY and HKCMD are running, Windows Explorer is prone to hanging and showing as "not responding" in the Task List. Our recommendation, therefore, is that you should not have this tray icon running, and that you should also not use the hotkey facility that comes with it. Disable both IGFXTRAY and HKCMD with Startup Manager. Quote
MoonFaery Posted August 31, 2003 Author Posted August 31, 2003 Thank you. I thought it was quite odd that it now just starting asking about access to the internet instead of when I first installed ZoneAlarm a month or so ago. Disable both IGFXTRAY and HKCMD with Startup Manager. How would I go about doing that? I've used 98SE so long and have just started using XP. It is a bit different Rock Sign Quote
TCH-Dick Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 How would I go about doing that? I've used 98SE so long and have just started using XP. It is a bit different Unlike Windows 2000 Microsoft included MsConfig with Xp. So just go to Start, Run, and type msconfig and hit enter. Once it opens, the last tab is the StartUp tab. Just uncheck any thing you don't want to load when your machine starts. Hit APPLY and then CLOSE and restart. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Unlike Windows 2000 Microsoft included MsConfig with Xp msconfig will work on Windows 2k it just isnt included with it, I just copied it from another disk lol Quote
MoonFaery Posted August 31, 2003 Author Posted August 31, 2003 Thank you again!!! I used it a lot with Win98 because my computer would slow down with so many things in start up, but I guess I just automatically assumed since XP was different that for some reason I couldn't do that or it didn't come to mind But now I can get rid of ohhh so many things that are in my startup!! Thank you!!! Rock Sign Quote

Ladislaus Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 (edited) Hi guys - quite glad to find this discussion boarded as I was facing the same problem. I unchecked both exes in the Config-Menue and everything seems to be ok now, but there is still this anti-virus-company, called sophos which warns about igfxtray.exe being a program run by a trojan named Troj/PAdmin-A. See what they write on their website: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/t...rojpadmina.html Is this all baloney not to worry about, or should I really start fibbling around in my registries? Grateful for all advice, Ladis Edited out a bit af "baloney" for the younger crowd. Edited October 6, 2003 by Critical Mass Quote
muffysnookums Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 does any one know how to disable hkcmd.exe in NT? Thanks Muffy. woooot Quote
TCH-Don Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 Have you tried the tips above? What happened? If not be sure to follow the advice about back ups Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup. Quote
