VeloVol Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I have an entry on my blog that's a spam magnet. I want to delete it. I tried deleting it using the blog program and got a "406 Not Acceptable" message. I tried deleting it using FTP and CPanel File Manager. Neither could delete it. I've submitted a support ticket and been told three times by the staff that the file is deleted from the servers. It's still there, collecting spam. Is there no way to rid my account of irksome file? TCH-Dick Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Are you using MT? I ask this because MT stores the posts in your database and generates its static pages from these entries. My knowledge of MT is very limited, however, I assume removing the page but not the database entry would cause the page to be restored each time the site is rebuilt. Quote
VeloVol Posted April 5, 2008 Author Posted April 5, 2008 Are you using MT? Yes. Consequently, is there something additional I need to do to get rid of the entry? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I can be wrong about this but I think what Dick means is that you might need to remove this entry manually from the database through phpMyAdmin in your cpanel. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 No he shouldn't have to use phpAdmin to remove it. He needs to delete it from within MT and rebuild the site. Quote
VeloVol Posted April 6, 2008 Author Posted April 6, 2008 When I try to delete the entry using the Movable Type control panel, I get this: Not Acceptable An appropriate representation of the requested resource /weblog/movabletype/mt.cgi could not be found on this server. When I try to delete using the other methods mentioned above, it initially appears as if I removed it. But when I go back to check, it's still there. It's picked up 100 more spam comments since I started this thread. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I'm sorry you are having difficulties with one of your posts. Have you gone in to edit that post? While you are editing there should be a delete function (at least there is in WordPress). Can you set the post to not allow comments? Have you tried the MT forums? Quote
VeloVol Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 you might need to remove this entry manually from the database through phpMyAdmin in your cpanel. Thanks for pointing this out. I wasn't aware that you could go in and edit entries in the database (using the main interface didn't work). I used phpMyAdmin to change the entry setting so it doesn't accept comments. That seems to have fixed the spam problem, as I've not gotten any more on that web page in the last couple days. Quote
