mke1963 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I'm trying to get a lot done in a short space of time...and already had help via the ticket system. I have set up my domain today and getting a bit tied up! Several problems: I have installed WebDisk, but when I use File Explorer (I'm using XP) it 'sees' the directory structure in My Network Places but it doesn't see the actual files. When I click on a directory, I get a message saying that the files don't exist, which is frustrating. I am using Smart FTP currently to upload files (trying to upload MediaWiki 1.6.10) but I think I am getting something wrong. I used CPanel to create an ftp account (upload@mydomain with a password). Uploaded files are going to the directory /home/myuser/www/upload but then SmartFTP is failing at some point (but not always at the same point). It is uploading so many files, then stops, with the message "Transfer failed. Use the Transfer Queue for automatic retries" I hevn't been using Smart FTP long enough to know how to use the Transfer Queue...it seems to want to add only individual files rather than whole directories. <sigh> If it helps, it comes up with "550 Can't check for file existence" in the SmartFTP 'action pane' for the files. This would seem to imply a permission error. Yet why does it upload some files and not all of them???? Surely the directory permission for a specifically designated FTP account would allow me to upload files? I keep having to delete the directories that **do** get uploaded to try starting again. So..... ....why isn't Web Disk able to see files? (It shows as ****:2078 in My Network Places) ....why can't I upload the files through SmartFTP? All very frustrating. Quote
nortk Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 On the SmartFTP issue...FTP is just not reliable...I don't think it's a TCH issue either. I just think FTP can be hit or miss. A more reliable approach, I think, when it comes to uploading something like MediaWiki is to download the tar.gz file from MediaWiki, upload that file to your public_html directory using the CPanel File Manager, and then extracting the files using that File Manager. This way, you only have to upload one file, and CPanel handles the decompression. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Welcome to the forums mke1963 As nortk says, you can upload as a single compressed file, and then uncompress on the server. SmartFTP should be able to handle uploading all the files separately though. If you still have a problem with it, please open a ticket at the help des ( link at the top of the page ) and we'll check if there is a reason we can find for it timing out on you. Quote

It **was** much easier to upload as a single file and unpack! Quote
