JDanniel Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Hello. I have a Simple Machines bulletin board. I needed my TCH CPanel password changed, and when it was changed, I lost access to the board and the Admin Panel. I also received an e-mail with the following statement: There has been a problem with the database! This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues. How do I update the bulletin board with the new password? I read the following information in the FAQ, but don't quite understand it. Where do I find the config file, and how do I change it? What do/can I do if I forgot/lost password for a database user name? Create a new user / password add user to database, then change the user and password in a config file for that particular bit of software I also tried adding a new user to the SQL Database. The user name is supposed to be only seven characters, but the user name for my account has eight. Does that matter? Can someone help me through this, please? Thank you! Jack Danniel Quote
TCH-Andy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 The username of 8 characters should be fine. The config file should be in the SMF folder, and you need to remember that it will have your cpanel username on it; Database: cpaneluser_dbname user: cpaneluser_username Pass: password The only thing I'm slightly confused with ... changing your cpanel password shouldn't affect the SMF. JDanniel Posted September 29, 2007 Author Posted September 29, 2007 I really am not understanding this. I created a new user, but from there, I don't know what to do. Can you go into a bit more detail on how to salvage this, please? Thank you. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 In what did you create a new user, in a database or in SMF? Quote
JDanniel Posted September 29, 2007 Author Posted September 29, 2007 I royally, I mean royally, screwed this up. Somehow, I deleted--yeah, deleted--the database. So, I created a new database. I wound up deleting the board from my FTP space, and am in the process of reinstalling it. In other words...I'm starting totally from scratch. I'll follow-up shortly to let you know if my salvage expedition bears fruit. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 If you like, open a ticket at the help desk - and we'll restore the database etc from a backup for you - so that it recovers it all. Quote
