Odd 404's On Server Error Log

Hi there,

 

I logged into Cpanel today and took a browse around to check that everything was running smoothly.

 

When I looked in the Error Log section I was surprised to see a large number of 404 entries looking for pages that I do not have.

 

Here is an example:-

All of the directory paths listed are correct for my site, but none of the attempted pages exist. They all look like cracks or pirate software.....

 

I've never had links titled this in the past that might be cached somewhere. There are literally hundreds of them, all different.

 

Any idea whats going on here? The only think I can think of ios some spam bot that’s gone wonky, but I cannot see what it achieves by looking for non-existent files.

This IP 66.249.72.148 is googlebot. Don't know about the others but you could add them to a robots.txt or .htaccess file to deny them access.

Ok, this is really odd.. I've just found this on Googles Cache. It purports to be a page under my domain full of nonsense, but that page has never knowingly been in existence on my server.

 

I have not created nor deleted this file, yet it appears to have been there at some stage since Google has cached it.

 

How can this be? Has my server been compromised?
