pressesc Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 My last hosting provider used to shut our site every time I get slashdotted or dugg. When the guy shut us down for just getting on the front page of reddit, we decided that enough was enough and moved to TCH. We got slashdotted and the site didn't go down. We made the front page twice on reddit and the site didn't go down. Haven't got dugg since we moved here 9 days ago, but I hope we can get dugg too. Kudos to TCH for having robust servers that are not overcrowded like other hosting companies. To say thank you, I would like to carry "Proudly hosted by TCH" or something like that on our site. Would that be okay? Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Welcome to the forums pressesc And the family. Glad you are happy. And it would be nice if you displayed hosted by Totalchoicehosting.com on your site (click link to see the Link to us page) and thank you. Quote

pressesc Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 Welcome to the forums. And I hate to sound like an idiot! But what is all this dugg and slashdot and reddit stuff anyhow????? They are all social news sites, with varying degrees of "democracy". Why don't you try them out yourself. I am not sure whether I am allowed to put links here or not, so I guess I will have to ask you to google them. Quote

pressesc Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 Guys, Given the popularity of my site (150,000 unique visitors so far in Feb) can you suggest me a good upgrade plan? I am well impressed with TCH , so I hope you can recommend something inhouse. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Not sure which plan you currently have but you can upgrade to any of the others simply by opening a ticket with the help desk. You can also purchase additional bandwidth as needed. Quote
pressesc Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 Not sure which plan you currently have but you can upgrade to any of the others simply by opening a ticket with the help desk. You can also purchase additional bandwidth as needed. Actually, the problem is not the bandwidth. It is the number of active MySQL connections. 99% of the time all work well. But when I get slashdotted or dugg, I get 1000 visitors/second and it messes things up. I have sort of found a solution: make a static cache of popular pages. But I am doing this by hand now. I wonder if there's any script that could potentially automate the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Head Guru Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Since we have opened our own Data Center Space, we are going to have some killer deals on Dedicated Servers in the next few days. I am not sure if your budget will allow it, but its the best option for very active web sites. Bill Quote

I am not sure if your budget will allow it, but its the best option for very active web sites. Bill Great news. Please let me know the details once everything is up and running. I can present this at our next board(=motley bunch of volunteers) meeting in mid-March. Our aim was to hit 100,000 uniques in six months. We did that in one. This months projection is about 300,000. We will definitely need to move to a dedicated server sooner rather than later. Quote
