What are the down sides of using form mail (PHP)? And or rotating email accounts to nix spam? It seems in the last week the level of spam getting through Spam Assin has gone way up. It was about 5 or 6 a day now it's has been running 400-500. I am considering form mail and using an account like 'january_only@mysite.com' . There has been some great help on here in the past, thanks.

I am not sure what you mean? form mail (PHP)?

Spam is on the rise. I read an article today that said 9 out of every 10 emails is spam. So that is a lot of garbage mail flowing.

I use AntiSpam Servant client side to filter my spam (the ones Spam Assassin misses).

It doesn't matter what you use for your email account, they will find you. It's just a matter of time.

I have accounts I've never sent an email from or posted anywhere and they get spam too.

I realize that I can/will get spam. But with form mail (using PHP programming) I can force the word ”Model” in the beginning of the subject. That will make filtering very easy. Second I could use rotating email addresses such as January_service_only@mysite.com. The customer would not see the address until they get a return response from me. I hope that they will be smart enough to figure it out.

Sure that could work. But what about repeat business. If you take an email address out of service (rotate) and the customer happened to save an email from you and sent you a new email using that address it woud bounce. Not good for business in my opinion.

Not sure if that is your intent or not but judging from the email address sample you supplied I assume you are running a business site and not a personal one.

It’s a small fix it yourself site. Due to the nature of the business, we don’t get many repeat customers. But that brings to mind another question. When the mail quota is used up on the server, does the auto responder still work? Or does it email “That mail box is full”? Because if it still works I can set it to a small number and reply “This address is no longer used, Please visit the main site”.

You could consider using Gmail for your business account. You can even set up Gmail to be the default mail handler for your domain, while keeping your hosting here at TCH.

I have it set up on a couple of my domains; I log in to a Google page and when I send and receive mail, it is through my TCH-hosted domain, but Google hosts the e-mail.

Google does a good job of taking care of SPAM for me, and with 2GB of storage space, you should be able to store as many messages as you want.

Gmail wouldn't cut it for me. I use Outlook as I can use Access to retreive the order information and generate the proper email replys. Unless there is a better way. I am open for new ideas.
