kjarrett Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I'd like to be able to set up several accounts (directories) which other people in our school can access. Is this a violation of the TOS? I seem to remember so... Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 If you are just providing them a directory/sub-domain then you are fine. It's when you start pointing/redirecting a domain to their directory/sub-domain, that you are violating the TOS/AUP. Just keep in mind that you are responsible for all content hosted on your site and make them aware of what they can upload. Quote
kjarrett Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Awesome thanks. I want to set this up: \root (inaccessible except to me) \root\user1 (full rights to user1) \root\user2 (etc.) \root\shared (full rights to a range of users) Can this be done, and if so, is there a FAQ or tutorial somewhere? -kj- Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 In your cPanel locate the FTP Manager, select FTP Accounts, select Add FTP Account, then just review the directions and complete the new account details. Quote
kjarrett Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Awesome thanks again. Last question. When it says 'add an ftp account' can I specify an EXISTING folder or must a new one be created? If the latter, I can just FTP the stuff down, delete the existing folder, add the ftp user and create the same folder again, and re-upload, right? -kj- Quote
kjarrett Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Thanks, done, but I am trying to access our FTP server using http://www.web2ftp.com/ And it's not letting me in with an account I just created. I can't use full FTP here at school due to firewall issues. I use web2ftp with my main TCH account all the time so I know it works. Is it because this user has no rights to the root folder and that's what it's requesting initially? I know I can specify a folder to open in WS_FTP and the like. Thanks as usual for the awesome service! -kj- Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I just tried it with a folder on my site that I have a user set up and it worked. In the FTP server box enter ftp.youTCHdomain.ext/folder Use the user@yourTCHdomain.ext you set up for the user and just the password in the third box. That's a pretty nice interface. Never tried it before. I use the FireFTP plugin in Firefox most of the time for my FTP needs. Quote
