rnmcd Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 What would be the best way to backup and restore only a single directory? I see that, via cpanel, I can backup the entire home directory but, at this time, I only need to backup a single directory prior to making some changes...if the changes cause me more problems than I anticipate I will want to restore only that single directory. How best to accomplish that as well? Thanks. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 You can download the contents of the folder using an FTP program. Quote
rnmcd Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 You can download the contents of the folder using an FTP program. I will do that. But out of curiousity, if I backed up the full home directory am I able to unzip it and find the subdirectory that I want restore? I am not familiar with .gz files. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Yes, you can open the full backup using Winzip and extract it. Quote
TCH-Don Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 As the home directory backup is compressed, it may be quicker to download the the home directory backup and extract the folder. Quote

I ended up trying both methods and, in my case, it turned out that uncompressing the home directory backup and then uploading the needed directory was quicker. Thanks! Quote
