What would be the best way to backup and restore only a single directory?

I see that, via cpanel, I can backup the entire home directory but, at this time, I only need to backup a single directory prior to making some changes...if the changes cause me more problems than I anticipate I will want to restore only that single directory.

How best to accomplish that as well?

Thanks.

You can download the contents of the folder using an FTP program.

I will do that.

But out of curiousity, if I backed up the full home directory am I able to unzip it and find the subdirectory that I want restore? I am not familiar with .gz files.

As the home directory backup is compressed,

it may be quicker to download the the home directory backup and extract the folder.

I ended up trying both methods and, in my case, it turned out that uncompressing the home directory backup and then uploading the needed directory was quicker.

Thanks!
