noxipoo Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 i check email today and all of a sudden years worth of emails are gone and my inbox has been renamed inbox (2). i use IMAP or webmail usually, any idea on where it went? I couldn't find any sort of archive folders, I started up thunderbird and just saw all the old emails disappear, including all the old INBOX.sent folders etc. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hello Noxipoo, I am guessing you have had the same error that I had a few weeks back. Don't panic, all your email should still be there. If (in XP) you go to C:\Documents and Settings\?????\Application Data\Thunderbird you will see a folder marked profiles. In there will be profile folders which contain your email. You will need to google thunderbird lost folders and there are several solutions available depending on what your current situation is. I would make a backup of the profile folders before you go any further JimE Quote
noxipoo Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 i checked the folder and there is only 1 folder in profiles and it is only 1.7 megs, i had about 2.5 years of emails. since it is imap, it should be on the server but there is nothing there in webmail either. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hello, If you want to check about the email folders on your website, please start a help desk support ticket. There is a link at the top of your screen marked "help desk" JimE Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 since it is imap, it should be on the server but there is nothing there in webmail either. One of the reasons I POP my email using an email client. (just thinking out loud) As Jim said, open a ticket with the help desk. They may be able to restore your mail from a previous backup if it is truly missing. Quote

noxipoo Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 I don't think this was caused by Thunderbird, here what I got back from the Helpdesk, is he say i'm SOL? Hi, I am sorry due the harddrive crash we had to restore the data with an old remote backup. The data we have restored is the most recent back up that we have of your account. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation. i feel that my emails were not restored at all since I only have a few emails starting from the 4th when I checked this morning. I typically do not check over the weekend. Quote

The moderators are volunteers and do not have access to the servers or your account information. Also, you are responsible for making your own backups. TCH backs up the servers but not every day. If you have a more recent backup you can restore that. Quote
