makaveli Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 (edited) as a few of you may be aware some spam hosting hi-jacked my coppermine gallery so i couldnt log in which was a pain, and im wondering about CHOMD's to "batch add" files it says you need CHMOD 755 or 777 permisions to add files. 755 doesnt seems to like the setup so i have to revert to the default 755 after changing to 777 for the upload. what would be the best CHOMD be to give my files? i just dont want to be hi-jacked again, as it took ages to get this all working again. obvoisuly i need to be to write and users need to be to view. maybe comment. and as for WP do i just changed them to 777 to change the code within the program then revert to the default. im not very good with all theses CHMOD numbers as you may have guessed, and im still always learning Edited June 28, 2006 by makaveli Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I haven´t used coppermine in a while, but if my memory don´t fail, I think I set it to 777 (I think 666 should work too), uploaded my images to the server, ran the batch add option, then set it back to the original permission. As for Wordpress, download the file to your own computer, make the changes/add code etc, reupload it and you would not need to change any permission. Quote
abinidi Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 In WP you can also log in to cPanel and edit the files using the File Manager. Its not a wysiwyg editor, but that woudln't work anyway, because the files you're editing in WP are PHP files. So in the File Manager, just click the filename, and then click the edit link on the right top corner of the screen. A new window will open. Make your edits, and then click the save button. Changes are instantly live. That is how I make the vast majority of my minor edits to Wordpress themes, etc. Quote
makaveli Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 thats a great idea i shall try that one, as it wont involve changing any setting whatsoever Quote
