Invision Power Board Cross-Site Scripting and SQL Injection Vulnerabilities

Description:

Two vulnerabilities have been reported in Invision Power Board, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting and SQL injection attacks.

1) Some unspecified input isn't properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

Successful exploitation requires that the user uses the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

2) Input passed to keys in serialised data in cookies isn't properly sanitised before being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in versions 2.0.0 through 2.1.4.

Solution:

The vulnerabilities have been fixed in updated 2.0.4 and 2.1.4 versions (from 2006-01-30).
