citrus Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 I want to be able to type the a URL in the address bar and have it display a JPG. Currently when I type http://www.mysite.com/mydirectory/myjpg.jpg I get the dreaded FORBIDDEN error. Ironically I can go to http://www.mysite.com/mydirectory/ which lists myjpg.jpg which I can then click on and display the picture. What's happening? Is there a configuration within CPANEL I'm not understanding? The reason I ask is that I'm putting together a slideshow using FLASH which works perfectly on my local machine but doesn't work on the server. The only way I can replicate the behavior (error) on my local machine is by making the jpgs unavailable. This got me thinking that the flash movie is running into a problem in accessing the pictures.... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Head Bash Quote
SEO Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 http://www.mysite.com/mydirectory/myjpg.jpg This is the correct syntax. Possible problems: Make darn sure the path is exactly correct (case sensitive). Do you have hotlinking enabled? Quote
citrus Posted June 11, 2003 Author Posted June 11, 2003 The problem was hotlinking: Here's the response from the Helpdesk (12 minutes): "There is a setting in your cPanel under the Hotlink protection that says: Allow direct requests (ie. entering the url to an image in your browser) It is under the box where you enter the sites you wish to loow access. I checked that box and was able to load the piture directly. Thank you for choosing Total Choice Hosting where choice does matter!
