dscott Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I want to set up a location where selected users could upload files to me but I obviously don't want to give them access to my entire site. Basically, just looking for a single directory that would require a username and password after which files could be uploaded. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Hi, Welcome to the forums When you create an FTP account (which you do in cpanel) it asks you for the directory that user has access to (by default, the same name as the first part of the username). You can then block access to that directory via a browser if you wish, and you then have an area where people can upload, but can not access from elsewhere, and can not access other files on your site outside of that directory. My apologies for not replying sooner but I had an apocalyptic crash on my computer that I needed to rectify. Regarding your answer to my FTP question, I'm afraid I'm still a bit lost (no problems using the technology, newbie when it comes to setting it up). TCH-Don Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 In cpanel go to ftp manager click on ftp accounts click on add ftp account type in a user name and password the folder for the account will automatically use the user name but I would change the folder name to something else then click on create and you will now have a new ftp account the user will use the following setup for ftp ftp.your-tch-domain user: user-name@your-tch-domnain password: ******* remote folder: public_html check passive the user will only have access to the folder you assigned.
