radim Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Hello, I am writing to encourage TotalChoiceHosting (TCH) to offer some alternative spam defense next to SpamAssasin. In my case SpamAssasin is not helpful for these reasons: 1) I copy arriving email to several (at present 2) destinations (work and home). The home-copy is tagged but not deleted/blocked, the copy at work is unmodified. 2) SpamAssasin misses some spam and incorrectly tags some legitimate messages. What I would like is a challenge system like the one recently implemented by Earthlink (http://www.earthlink.net/spamblocker/). Or I could use a hand-compiled white-list - only senders on the white list could email me. The best would be if you let me write my own script which would decide which messages are OK. I would be happy to pay few $s a month extra for this. I am positive that I am not alone and if you aggressively advertised your anti-spam capabilities, it would likely bring you stream of new customers (e.g. I would target ads to Comcast customers: I and several of my friends have Comcast for ISP, but we do not use Comcast email as it is horrible and many of need/want our own domain). Hammerz Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 SpamAssasin works for me. When it blocks mail for the first time, I am sent a copy of the original mail attached to the notification. I then have the option of going to the Cpanel and adding it to my "white list." ('Course, I don't know precisely ALL of what is on SA's "black list," but I haven't been missing any mail that I want to recevie!) I wish my own ISP provided the same protection! I receive nearly 20 peices of "viral spam" alone per day on that account, and can't even use it any more except as a back up. I DO wish that TCH would allow either an "opt out" or some configurability on the outgoing Exim filter...but they know that already, and it's another topic! Chuck in Taiwan Quote
idallen Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 The best would be if you let me write my own script which would decide which messages are OK. You can already do this. Install a .forward file and pipe your email into any script you want. Quote
