Can anyone help me out with this...

I'm installing some software on my server and this requires that a few of it's directories and their subdirectories & files have their permissions changed. This was all fine until I met a massive directory with about 45 sub folders and loads of subfolders within each one.

Short of making my fingers completely numb by changing each file and directory manually, can anyone suggest a method where I can select a folder and all its subfolders' and files' permissions?

Or where I can change a folder's permissions and the changes will be applied to everything within it?

If anyone knows of an FTP client which can help, please let me know too. At the moment I'm using an FTP client, but this only helps in that i can change all the files in one folder at a time. It IS a big improvement, but it is still going to take me hours...

Thanks!

welcome to the forum :clapping:

you can change all the files in a single directory with some FTP clients, but I would open a ticket at the help desk, and ask us to change the permissions, recursively, on that directory

Welcome to the forums! I use SmartFTP...it's a lot like using "My Computer" in Windoze.

Lovely... thanks. I use SmartFTP at work but was working on this from home yesterday. Surely enough, SmartFTP did the job in a few minutes, alone.

Thanks to all the others for your replies, and thanks for welcoming me to TCH Family. I've been a TCH client for some years, but rarely ventured here... I've been missing a lot of useful info :clapping:
