E-mail Hijacking

One of my Web site's addresses has been hijacked by a spammer. I keep receiving countless bounce back e-mails from invalid addresses. Anything I can do to stop this assault?

Probably want to open a help desk ticket.

I don't think a ticket to the help desk is going to help.

 

This is a common practice for spammers. Anyone can spoof an email return address so it looks like it came from someone other than the actual sender. Many viruses do this as well.

 

It's is also a fact of internet life if you have a domain name it's not a matter of if it will happen but when it will happen.

I was reading it as somebody was actually sending mail from his account, not spoofing mail from his account. My bad.

Yep, very easy to do. I get them in waves. Many for a few days and then they taper off for a few weeks and then it starts up again.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I'm sure it's a spoof. I'm running Mac OS X and doubt they're being sent from my machine but from somewhere else. I guess the consensus is that there's nothing I can do to prevent it.

They probably got your email address from your web site mailto: link on your contact page.

Possibly but unlikely since I employed a mangle script over two years ago. Perhaps it's from a post from a job listing site or something like that...
