Guest getitdone Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 hello, I am kind of new so . . .there's some I know, then there is some I think I know. my friends would be laughing- 'if he only knew' currently I have a basic shared account. I am going to be working with several different domains/ accounts hopefully. so I am looking at upgrading to shared reseller account, but have a few questions that have not been able to answer by reading the forums. 1. which account would I have to goto to get shell access? price being the factor. thinking about Simple Resellers. ? 2. Is there a list of cms that you would not allow, that way I could just cross them off my list right away. 3. do you discourage audio or movies. I saw one post that recommended pod casting, how does this help? vs. streaming 4. what happens when one of my clients has illegal audio for example. I don't want to monitor this. is there software to help me monitor? if there was illegal content, do you shut off just that sellars space/domain or the whole reseller space and maybe reseller domain too. what are the details here. I know it is alot of questions. hope it is not bad to do it this way. 5. couple of times I have chatted with tech support. (again I am new to this industry. I know html 3.2 from years ago, now getting up to speed again) it was slow with the responds. maybe they were talking with 5 different people at once, so give me a break right, ok sometimes you are busy. Just looking for 'if this is normal' with other peoples experiences. (3-4 min. between responses). but other than that tch has been great no downtime, superior service for little $4 a month. that's good, thanks. 6. is a way to unpack large tar files? or here is the issue. I have a program, I can download the zip files to my local HD. unzip them(it has alot of directories, then ftp them to server. well the ftp takes forever, like when I did joomla it took more than 2 hours. I think it was more but .. . . anyhow is there anything I can do about this? Thanks in advance 7. hand holding. how much help do you help with. give me an idea? no third party apps help, ok what about cpanel or other things I don't know about yet. Is there a list of scripts that are no no so that I can make sure I do not touch them. I have already run some. hope . .... ...... oh and one other thing. helpdesk was saying I should not logg into my main cpanel account(maybe they meant email account, I have forgotten) with root. they pointed me to the forums in general, but I can not find info on how to create another email account and forward mail to one account. can somebody point it out. (thank you) question: why is it bad to loggin as the root regulary? I do apreciate the service so far. have learned alot. probably alot more right? Thanks again Quote
TCH-Andy Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Hi getitdone 1. shell access is not provided, other than on dedicated servers. However, you can do vitually everything via the tools provided without shell access. 2. There are no CMS systems band. You need to ensure it is secure from a script viewpoint though. 3. Audio and video are fine (although they will use up your bandwidth of course). We only support http streaming of audio / video. 4. It is your responsibility to monitor your clients sites. If one has illegal copyright audio for example, that were reported to us. That site would be suspended, and we would talk to you about it. 5. The reponse time with tech support varies depending on the method you use, and how busy we are It sounds as if you were using Live Chat, or IM. If these were simple questions, then I would expect a quicker response than 3-4 mins. If these were requiring the tech to investigate something, and then get back to you - I'd say 3-4 mins was pretty good 6. Yes, you can upload a sipped file, and then unzip it from the file manager in cpanel. 7 Server level support is via the help desk. If it's third party, scripts type hand holding, then we have the family forum here Quote
Guest Guest Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 yea, ok that is a quick reply 3. Audio and video are fine (although they will use up your bandwidth of course). We only support http streaming of audio / video. others work? don't usually work? streaming works better? why? you do not support podcasting, yet. 4. It is your responsibility to monitor your clients sites. If one has illegal copyright audio for example, that were reported to us. That site would be suspended, and we would talk to you about it. ok, anybody know of software that I could use to monitor this. or I should be able to get a list of copyrighted songs or whatever 'content' and have a php script run down through the list to make sure it is valied (sp?). does that make sense? Thanks I am going to take any info you have tomorrow as it is too late for me now. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 yea, ok that is a quick reply others work? don't usually work? streaming works better? why? you do not support podcasting, yet. These are shared servers. Adding steaming would put unnessary loads on the servers causing them to slow down. ok, anybody know of software that I could use to monitor this. or I should be able to get a list of copyrighted songs or whatever 'content' and have a php script run down through the list to make sure it is valied (sp?). does that make sense? I have no clue of any automated way to monitor your client's sites. Quote
